In th 90s i was playing with the "Chase" function of the roland D50 and recording it on tape : i didn't know at this time that Robert Fripp did this kind of music already ... Robert, i woul like to play music with you, as an humble child. Really ♥

These were the offers of this ancient wild world: live, share, take care, have fun and live together. Unfortunately, we were so focused on the change of era that we did not have the time or the awareness to organize us. We looked at the world as a rocket in the sky and gave caution to operettas’ musicians to free us. However the spirit is still there, waiting to be recognized and conscious again and again until it is everywhere in elevation to the Paradise of Utopians and other unconscious dreamers🎼🎼🎼🎼 besides, I like the crackle of vinyl in the depths of the woods!

I had not long bought Exposure and really liked it, not least for hints of a possible return of King Crimson, with Breathless being the most Crimsonesque, when this album came out with the first side of Frippertronics being my favourite, I was less keen on the track with the David Byrne vocals but Zero of the Signified was rather hypnotic. I did become a bit obsessed with Robert Fripp at this time, so when Let the Power Fall and The League of Gentlemen came out in 1981 I was right there to get them on their release. There was a definite sense that Robert Fripp was building up to something bigger and the announcement of his new band, Discipline, sounded exciting, not least for the inclusion of former KC drummer Bill Bruford, hot bass/stick player Tony Levin and red hot guitarist Adrian Belew, who was playing with all the coolest people at the time. When that band became the new King Crimson expectations were sky hight and the album, Discipline, delivered on those high hopes. As I write the expectation that King Crimson has played its last gig has been generally accepted, following RF’s cryptic announcement on social media, I like to reflect back on that 1980/81 period when RF was doing such interesting work and all that great work was still to come. I was lucky enough to see the 7 and 8 piece KC live, with the three drummers front line, two of the best gigs I have ever been to.

wow I absolutely could have written this comment myself, word for word, every aspect of it. I'm guessing McZorro0101 is somewhere in the sixth decade of his life. Music was so NEW at this point and RF was, IMO, leading the way. The only thing I would add is a story about driving from Alabama to Atlanta Ga to see the band play in what was the Agora Ballroom at the time. Left on a whim believing I could grab tickets there. Well I don't have to tell you that it didn't happen and the dream of seeing Robert, Adrian, Bill and Tony crumbled...devastated, the drive back was horrible. Oh well lesson learned. Also I liked Byrne's contribution to Under Heavy Manners (oh Urizrel !, was it ?)

For me, "Frippertronics" remain one of the most enchanting forms of music to this day. I first heard Let the Power Fall long long ago, when the album was still pretty 'young'. Robert Fripp creates these pieces so well.

So novel and innovative at the time, and what a world of imagination spawned by sound on sound/looping ever since! It is a unique dimension some experimental musician friends and myself also dabbled in late 70s-80s with the Echoplex tape when we shortened them to 10 seconds or so, enabling live overdubbing.. now, looping is everywhere.. I encourage every musician to explore it if you haven't already...it will open doors you didn't know were there 👽

I think one of the things that makes this so appealing to me as opposed to modern ambient music is that this is just bare, and doesn’t rely on $700 reverb pedals drowning everything in a huge wash of particle and pitch-shifting reverbs. Most people doing ambient with those reverbs seem to just rely on the effects doing the work, rather than composition.

Meandering on autopilot. Give me, say, Tangrine Dream´s Phaedra any day over this.. It had the spark, the excitement this so sorely lacks.. and I´ve listened to it at the the same time with "Red", and all older KC albums, in early 70s .. But yeah, we´ve all got to pay the bills ;)
