I watched this when it originally aired on HBO. It's amazing how much of this routine I remember word-for-word.

What's crazy about KZitem is that I thought I had seen every Robert Klein comedy set since I'd been following him in the 80s, but this is the first time I'd seen this one. Thanks for posting!

I agree. Can you imagine nights in front of apathic crowds doing your act; believing you are funny even as people tell you suck? Being a stand-up comic seems brutal to me. I couldn't do it.

This was an essential stand-up learning tape for its time. Klein rides through his whole set on waves of EMOTION. One strong feeling after another made clear and you never feel like he is 'saying' his bit, he is always, always DOING it, creating it from feelings. What a lesson for modern hipster ironic comedians.

I bought this back in 1986 and watched it many times. There's a cut between 35:53 and 36:00 that I've always wondered about. It think someone made an offensive remark that was removed. Of course, I don't know for sure.

It wouldn't surprise me. Robert was rather edgy. He has made jokes about gays and down syndrome people. Back then, it was like whatever. Now, it is offensive in todays society.

One of the greatest stand up comedians of all time, and a major influence on many greats, Jerry Seinfeld, for example. Klein was a master of his craft.

Great Special. Glad I found him via Nick Di Paolo, naming Klein one of his favourites. 4:50 Hogan's Heroes was deeper than that. Not every German Soldier was depicted as evil, but the ones following the nazi doctrin were depicted as evil and stupid. A lot of the actors had a strong connection to the War, lots have lost family members in the death camps and making that show gave a lot of people the relief they needed. They got a lot of flack in that time for doing the show.

7:30 Who the hell was Evelyn Wood anyway? An educator, unlike "Sarah Lee" or "Aunt Jemima", these people don't exist! Aunt Jemima is "owned" by Quaker Oats. So the old, white Quaker enslaved the matronly black woman on "Pepperidge Farm", what dimension is that located in? New Jersey, surrounded by oil refineries, there's an ideal environment to bake cookies, huh? "Colonel Sander's", that guy looks like a child trafficking pimp! "It's finger lickin' good".... Lick this! "KFC, the only thing missing is U". "Wonder bread"... gee, I wonder why I'm sick again? The "Burger KIng", glad they killed that off cause it looked like a Guy Fawkes mask! "Lane Bryant", was she a porker too? "Wendy's", so that's what happened to Pippi Longstocking! "Hardee's", you'll have a heart attack and never get hard again!
