I saw Robert Palmer in the '80's at The Mann Music Centre in Philadelphia Pennsylvania and they were SPECTACULAR!! #RedheadRPBhead I'm still listening to this song EVERY DAY!! I like it HOT!!!!

Max & his band did perform with Palmer on Conan O'Brien's old show but, other than that, i'm pretty sure they didn't tour with him cuz they were busy as Conan's house band. The hispanic man on lead guitar (Eddie Martinez) however, was a part of Robert's band for many yrs.

Yeah, but In Max;s defense, he doesn't hold himself out to be other than what he is, a (great in MHO) Jersey shore band drummer. No pretension. Nice guy too.

Was thinking exactly the same thing - Tony T worked very, very hard on his groove - especially with a monster musician like Bernard, constantly looking over his glasses at him.

@@pickout2 Ha ha ha. I'm a white drummer and played funk for many years. Yes Max is missing the groove with this and the bass player sounds like he just learned it moments before playing live. Max is over-doing it with the cymbals. Tony kept it simple and used the hi-hat for emphasis. RIP to both Tony and Robert.

Much as I loved Tony Thompson and still do, I preferred to listen to his studio recordings. Live he was less enjoyable, as if he was hitting drums too fast.

For those whining this just doesn’t sound like Tony Thompson or John Taylor, I say, “Good.” You can’t say you like individual style and then complain the record isn’t playing instead. Max isn’t a funk drummer and John Taylor was about as soulful as a piece of cardboard. That funk play on the original is by the numbers.
