"The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" was played as the wake-up music on flight day 9 to the astronauts aboard Apollo 17, on their last day in Lunar orbit (Friday, 12/15/1972) before returning to earth, thus ending the last manned explorations of the Moon. The use of the song was most likely a reference to the "face" of the moon below the spacecraft.

And Madonna was never as good as Ms Flack and I doubt she ever will. She was lucky she came on the scene when singing became about visuals as opposed to voice. To me the 80s marked a real descent in quality and the industry never recovered from it. It's why I never stopped listening to the music my parents loved (both were born in the 40s) and I impressed upon my own child the importance of filling one's head and ears with anything other than the drivel of the day that's being pushed on listeners.

I AM an old fart, but in 1972 I was married to my first love, we had a new baby and I worked at a minimum wage job, living in a 1 room apartment with a bathroom in the hall. THIS song, sung by one of the most beautiful voices I've ever heard was the one that along with the Righteous Brothers "Unchained Melody" were the numbers that made my shabby assed existence, along with our love, work w/ my Lady, my last LADY. Years down the road, we divorced and went our separate ways, she remarried...TWICE, and then passed on. Listening to this and seeing your reaction, literally has me in fucking tears. Thanx, I guess.

Martin Sinfield So many folks are unaware of the fact that Roberta Flack's version is a cover. But, man, what a gorgeous, gorgeous cover it is. Truly a classic, a standard!

I met my wife 40 years ago in high school at a dance. I was 18 and she was 16. She was the only one in color. Everything else was gray black and white. We only danced with each other, totally in love and mesmerized instantly. I got her number and asked her out the next morning and we've been madly in love ever since. We were each other' s first and only. Still make love every day 2-3 times. Best friends. I cry when I hear this song and my throat is in a knot.

This was on the radio back in high school. Man, brings back memories of simpler times, and so much good music. Yeah. Peace

My favorite version as well. You get the full range and power of her voice. Incredible.

She's smooth, yet powerful. She's done some awesome duets with Donny Hathaway, Peabo Bryson,, and Maxi Priest. She is a legend!

Roberta flack great. Best male version of this song is “ George Michael” rendition live, the first time ever I ever saw your face ( click 5:12 love vetsion) then for the best Beatles version ever of “ The long and winding road” yes, you guessed it : George Michael. George passed away recently considered by many as the one of the top male vocalists of his time 1980s 1990s. No one will recommend but if you react privately to “the first time..” you will feel the emotional impact and hopefully react publicly to his “ long and winding road” ( click the 3:55 one... the longer one he performs another song with it not as powerful) He sang it live through an invitation he received as a tribute when Linda McCarthy passed away. I just watched it for the 8th time and I’m still in tears. All love in isolation from Miami Beach, Florida, All

In my opinion George Michael was the greatest singer songwriter in the world. I miss him terribly.

This was my mom and dad's song. We played this at my mom's funeral. Sadly my dad passed 2 months later.
