Nice fix that pattern reminds me of the wall paper in my room in the early seventies !

It is very ICL mid sixties wall paper or Lino Benji I would agree, which is why 1977-1978 seems a bit late for this sort of thing. It is a Roberts however so.....

Definitely a toilet radio that one Andrew 😁. I’ve seen the pictures of the blue version but never a brown one so very nice find. Great that you showed the alignment as well. Strange that the volume pot packed up but it does happen. Cheers Graham

Hahahaa! Yes definitely one for the toilet, or loft. The volume pot was completely knackered which was really odd as it's not switched. I'd expect it would have stayed roughly in the same position for volume purposes for its life but no, the track was very scored end to end.

Very informative thanks I have just picked up one of these on eBay so I’ll be attempting the alignment so your video was perfect 👌 …

Thanks Anrew. Not a nice pattern but a good radio despite the Roberts name on the front. One really good upgrade that works on most Roberts radios is to change the name badge to Stepeltone.

I thought you was going to say "Look what some 12 year old girls has done to this radio, covered it in Fablon!"

You know, that's what we initially thought it was, an old waterproof table covering. Thanks for watching and hope you're well.

That colour and design could only have come from the 1970s. I don't mind it but I think I can understand why these are rare!

Ha! Yes, I don't think it would have been a great seller during the height of punk but it is a strange pattern for sure. Thanks for watching.

The meter was a quid from a radio meet, much the same functionality as an AVO but a fraction of the weight! I really like it and it has a FET front end so very useful for radio work. I'd definitely recommend the Rambler as a first radio to repair, very easy to work on. Despite it coming from South London and not Maidenhead :)

Hi Andrew. I wonder what all the little illustration sticker type thingies are on the case of the radio. Are they just decorative or do they have a specific meaning to Roberts Radio? These little details always fascinate me about radio design.. ATB Doug.

Hi Doug, no idea on the pattern, it's sort of Mexican kaleidoscopey type inspired to my eyes and I was looking for events in 77/78 that might have inspired it but nothing I could find.
