Robin Burrow, Joe Burrow’s mom, joins Off the Bench to talk about her son and what it was like being at every game.
“I certainly appreciate the fact that I was able to come to every single game,” Burrow said. “I, for the most part, would work the whole day on Friday… go to the game, and hop on a plane Sunday afternoon.”
Senior night was special in particular, Burrow said.
“It was kind of an out-of-body experience,” Burrow said. “Once Joe came running out… it was really overwhelming. We are just so happy that he’s been able to experience that kind of once-in-a-lifetime moment.”
The night was full of emotion up to his last snap, Burrow said.
“I think that, when they took him out of the game, it took me by surprise a little bit,” Burrow said. “It’s kind of numbing… in a good way, obviously. We’re so happy and appreciative that it’s been such a positive experience. It’s been unbelievable.”
Burrow also remarked on her son’s legacy in Baton Rouge.
“We’ve always felt so confident in Joe that we wanted him to have… an honest opportunity to play,” “He was ready to go to work (and) try and win that spot. We wish that it was closer to home… but, at the same time, he is absolutely in the place he was always supposed to be.”
Burrow also answered questions mailbag-style, starting with whether or not she taught Joe the pageant wave.
“I did not,” Burrow said. “I think that he must have some other female influence in his life that gave him that.”
Next, she was asked how it feels to be around the LSU faithful.
“Everyone is so nice and welcoming,” Burrow said, “and it just feels like the entire state has embraced Joe and our family. We feel at home.”
Burrow was also asked how she feels that there will be a statue of her son on LSU’s campus forever.
“That is just unbelievable to think about for me,” Burrow said. “I don’t have words for it. We’re just really looking forward to these next three weeks.”
