Someone showed me this saying "They're holding their bows like modern-day rifles" and that is definitely the most noticeable part (especially around 1:43 where he's in close quarters looking back and forth- if you're in that situation that's when you *use a sword or knife*, if someone comes from behind spinning on them with a bow isn't going to be effective; but also you don't hold longbows drawn at all times, your arms would get tired in a couple seconds) but I also like the part where the enemy missile launcher blows up a wall and sends shrapnel everywhere, and also where they launch a flare to signal air support which is outside the city yet accurate enough that running back like 30 feet is enough to get to safety. The bizarre thing is it's clearly an *intentional decision* to I guess, make you realize that people in this time period were the same type of people as in the modern day? Similar to how the 2003 Battlestar Galactica has 2003 technology apart from the spaceships? But you can absolutely write a battle scene with an equally intense and real feel to it where people are using swords rather than using bows as if they're rifles.

@@Jake-dh9qk incorrect. 120lb longbows were common in English armies at the time. In fact, that was on the lower poundage for a war bow. The reason we can't typically do so now is because we aren't professional archers who've spent 13 years of our lives training to use them causing our bones and bodies to deform in the process. To be an archer in an English army you typically had to be able to loose up to 16 arrows a minute from a high poundage war bow.

It's common in modern retellings that Robin Hood is depicted as a crusader having fought for king Richard

It takes place during the crusades.

@@beezzarro I think that even the more traditional tellings start with Robin Hood returning from the crusades. They just don't focus on it

@@Posiman Always depended on the story teller. Sometimes it was just about his return to land and facing down the Sheriff and/or King John and sometimes it was a saga starting in Middle East.

I see a lot of people wasting a lot of time complaining about the historical accuracy of folklore. It's basically a medieval super hero movie. Robin Hood was never real. Maybe real people inspired the legend, but he is analogous to a super hero and should be understood as such

If your bow has a weak enough draw that you can run around like that, it isn't strong enough to kill a man let alone go through armor.

As ridiculous as it seems, this scene had a unique ring to it. Historically inaccurate? Definitely. But it was entertaining to watch. Muh Call of Duty Medieval Warfare.

Never liked how this movie's battle scenes are similar to modern warfare, though robin hood is a fictional character some historical accuracy is necessary.

That's...how Arabian archery was. We know from instructional manuscripts that Arabian archers were expected to fire off 3 arrows in 1.5 seconds. Check out Lars Andersen - Danish archer who's learned to shoot in the medieval manner and has basically become Hawkeye. @Eeshan Khan That's...how Arabian archery was.
