Robbin Williams spoke a pretty good French for an American. He certainly did not dislike the French. He was a brilliant comedian. A good comedian picks on everybody. American Revolution, WW2. France and the US have helped each other out of rough spots in the past and will continue to do so. Our fundamental values are the same, both republics were born of the same stuff, roughly the same time. Vive la France, la fraternité, l'égalité et la liberté.

America was a bunch of colonies. They had no chance against their mother empire without the help of an established nation. French naval warfare against incoming British supply convoys and French military supplies are what allowed continental forces to achieve the things they did. This isn't even mentioning direct French military intervention on land. And, for the record, "just google it" is not a good argument... Especially when googling it comes up with results like "France played a key role in the American revolution".

I'm French and I have to admit that before the WWII we hated Americans, for different reasons. But the war calmed down us all. Now, we are very grateful to them. You can watch videos about the D-Day commemorative events in Normandy for the 70th anniversary this year. We are so happy Americans delivered us (not just them !). We still don't really like them (at least some of us), but when we talk about the Liberation of our country, we never forget the Allies ! This year, during the commemorations in June, all of French persons who talked to the veterans were so grateful ! They were almost crying when they were thanking them for what they did. So please, stop saying we are profiteers. :)

One of my favorite old-time Miller Beer commercials is the one where you see a guy making a sandwich while the narrator says: "It's hard to respect The French when you had to bail them out of two big ones in one century. But we have to hand it to them on mayonnaise. Nice job Pierre." Speaking of their relationship with their neighbors, one of my former commanders went to a NATO strategy summit. When they guy speaking for the French got up and stated explaining how the decision-making process on whether or not to go to war works in France my commander couldn't resist. He said; "I thought the Germans decide when the French go to war." He said the Americans laughed, the rest of the room, not so much.

Lets get the FACTS STRAIGHT! The French armed forces never surrendered! The Fall of France was a political failure not a military one. Why? Because during WW2, the Armed Forces were split- Some units were mobilized, others were not. Those that were mobilized were told to go home after Petain signed an armistice with Hitler...meanwhile other units kept on fighting (free french forces and resistance) and meanwhile units which were involved in the Blitz were defeated ALONG WITH THE BRITISH -and either evacutaed at Dunkrik died honorably OR taken as POW! in my family, my grandfather's unit was never mobilized. he later protected jews in his factory (and no one ever made a movie about it!) , meanwhile 2 of my great uncles fought - one was killed in a blitz (bombardment by luftwaffe- Germany's armed forces were stronger than France's and the UKs..mind you it took Russia, US, etc to bring them down!) and another was taken Prisoner and escaped 3 times! May we respect and honor the memories of the millions of brave French who died in battle!

During an international conference between military officials, a French officer complained "Why must we all have to learn English for this conference? Why shouldn't the Americans learn a language?" An American officer responded "Maybe because the Americans, British, and Canadians arranged so you wouldn't have to speak German."

I think this sketch is not funny, but rather moralistic and meant to hurt the French (and I am French). It's like he's saying : we, Americans, are so perfect. And see the results : comments on how Americans did all wrong and other comments on how America did not. Not fun.

Oh the irony .. The *French* being one of the greatest nations on earth with one the best military records in history for the nation's age, not to mention the best military record in *European history* which has known more war than anywhere else for centuries. What I find amusing here, if it were not for the *"cowardly"* French! America would not of had there much appreciated *independence* which is celebrated every year. It was the French who gave the U.S the *Statue of Liberty* which also enforced their newly gained *freedom*. To the ingorant ill-educated Americans out there! Don't mock a nation who gave you the very right to the freedom you boost about. They may have had their own selfish reasons for supporting the rebellious *British Colony* I.E taking any opportunity to have a pop at the *British Empire* but still, thank them rather than mock them you ungrateful plebs. EDIT- France now the shameful Capital of Islamic hordes in Europe. With the UK and Germany behind. RIP to the bedrock of civilisation.

We only beat the French in the Napoleonic Wars by being patient, persistent and rallying many countries to our cause. In World War I they were by far the most important land power against Germany. Since World War II they've been falsely tarred with the "cowardly" brush.

It's sad to think how many people are so ignorant, that they believe everyone in a country is all the same. Well guess what? I'm American and I'm not fat at all, and I LOVE France and am open to all cultures. Quite frankly I don't know a single person who hates France. Everyone loves Europeans where I live. SO EVERYONE WHO MAKES A STUPID COMMENT ON HERE NEEDS TO GET THERE FACTS STRAIGHT AND THINK A LITTLE BEFORE THEY LEAVE A COMMENT. Thanks.

I don't speak english so i 'ill speak in french. Nice job Mister Williams :)
