Incase you didn't watch till the end or read the description i'll also say this here that you may have noticed that I took down the atf 7 vs atf 8 video, scrapped its part 2, and how parts of this video are just recycled talking points from the part one and that's because I realized that those two videos had lost their point and were just a mess of different topics. So this video is my replacement for the ATF 7 vs ATF 8 video and what it was suppose to be.

Howdy, just thought I would drop my thoughts here. First, let me say I appreciate the points this video takes to acknowledge system advancements and whatnot. It's nice to have things I worked on appreciated - those little moments are why I do these games. Like I've said before, I have learned a lot from working on ATF8. Looking back on all of this, I feel like ATF7 (at least at launch) is the last true pre-adulthood ATF game I made. I was 24 when it came out, but I was fresh out of college and still working on the same understandings and designs from the previous 6 games. To those who don't already know: every even-numbered game is basically one giant experiment platform and even odd-numbered game is where I take the lessons learned and perfect the formula. True to form, ATF8 has been me trying to break free of all the restrictions and systems I felt were stifling from the previous games, but along the way I realized a few things. For example, the same mentality that applies to building of "if it isn't noticeable at an off-hand glance, don't waste polygons on it" also applies to coding. I've spent forever trying to make "perfect" systems with peak complexity, and the results are usually just a ton of bugs and your average player doesn't even notice or care. Whatever form ATF9 takes, it will likely use much of ATF8's systems because I do NOT wanna recode 2.5 years-worth of systems quite yet, but one thing is for sure: I will always be streamlining, improving efficiency, etc. My goal for all future games in lore, systems, and maps is "simplicity at a glance, but complexity under inspection" We've got some fun stuff in the chamber for ATF8's stories and systems before the game goes into the history books, thanks for sticking with me through it all.

As someone who played atf 7 on the surface level (I was a kid) and playing atf 8 seriously, I will say it’s an improvement over the last game no matter how you look at it. The sheer customization possibilities aft 8 overs is something that was absent in the last game. ATF 8 is a solid title in the series and I hope it gets only better from here 👍

As the number one Wintertide apologist and enjoyer, I'd say while I love the game, I have my fair share of problems with it. However, 90 percent of these problems aren't a fault of the game itself but rather the community. I'd consider myself a fairly experienced role-player, I've played ATF since Rain, I've played G-Mod roleplay and I've done some DnD, I mention this because I feel it's important to note that the problems I'm about to mention aren't exclusive to Wintertide and can be seen in some capacity in all multiplayer roleplay games. 1. Play to lose is the right mindset to have and I'm glad the people behind Wintertide are trying to encourage it as much as possible, however, I've encountered many people who will violate the 'play to lose' rule and will then accuse you of breaking it the moment you get the upper hand on them. 2. There's a certain type of player that me and my friends called 'Combat Roleplay Freaks' these people are generally easy to identify as their character will have no personality and their character will usually look quite edgy. These players use their characters only for combat roleplay and generally bring the game down as they usually ignore 'play to lose' entirely as they're fairly sore losers. These players also tend to travel in groups to make sure players have no chance at fighting against them. They also have a tendency to combat log or quit the game when a fight's over, meaning that attacked players will have no opportunity to create an interesting roleplay scenario where they get revenge. 3. The community was not ready for the old rule 2/3 that allowed for player freedom. I believe that the people working on Wintertide wanted to move away from Mirage's strict rules and implemented new rules that allowed for greater player freedom. The problem was that rule 2/3 was frequently abused, people would make things that didn't fit the game's setting or create things that were overpowered. 4. No hate to furries, but there's far too many and I think it warrants it's own point. They break the game's immersion, it's difficult for me to roleplay as a wastelander trying to live day by day when I can see a cat-girl down the street. 5. I've met people who will start OOC arguments over the slightest or no provocation. I'm not just talking about people starting them in the middle of combat, I mean that I was playing the game normally and some random person came along and said that my character's clothes didn't fit ATF's setting (keep in mind, Chad had previously donated 10 scrap points with the message 'sick character design'). As I said before, these problems aren't exclusive to Wintertide. There's a lot of other smaller problems I haven't mentioned and all of these combined can at times make for a horrible experience. I've started roleplaying in empty or private servers with my friends more and more because the community of this game can be absolutely insufferable at times.

Heavy on number 2. I feel like CRP Freaks as a whole ruins the roleplay for others. In most rps outside of the Roblox/ATF games, when there is a disagreement you usually can solve it with speech checks or in another civil manners, fighting is your last resort if all else fails because fighting can lead to your character dying or getting critically injured. With CRP Freaks, they don't care if they die in a fight, because all they see is that they have the chance of killing someone else. When they do die, they will just switch servers, move to another side of the map and continue crping, or switch to a different character they made and hunt you down for revenge. With all that said, I feel like ATF 8's community is doing a good job at preventing constant CRP, from what I see. When there is CRP, I see the participants use dice rolls to see who wins at doing an action which I feel turns off CRP freaks from fighting because it isn't in their favor. Only problem I see with this is when the CRP freaks start going in groups, which you mentioned, since a 1v4 will always be in favor of the four people. And with reason number 4, I get it. I have one friend who's a furry and plays the atf games, and they always stick to human characters. Furry characters break immersion a lot, you can't take them seriously at all in game. Once I was rping a wastelander trying to survive the cold by scavenging resources and building camps around the city, but then a furry character went up to me and started blabbering about 'a safe town nearby' that I could go to for refuge. This furry was wearing a bright neon green fursuit and just took me out of the immersion I was building. Even if the furry isn't wearing fursuits or bright colors, just seeing a random woman with those weird cat ear hairs is enough to break me from immersion. Honestly, I like ATF 8's community a lot better than ATF 7's community but there is still some problems to it.

I like Wintertide now, but when i first played it, i hated it, I sorta bought the alpha and really forgot about it, until mirage started to slowly die around the release of beta, i remember when there was just the Mendel, i used to take sniper accessories and attach them to my hands with at the time primitive rigging system that was more closer to ATF7's system, but still better over all, My only points on the game is its definitely too hated, And i think people need to open up a little more, the game isn't all to bad like you stated, most of the systems and quality of life details chad and his somewhat small team put into the game is almost unmatched in any other ATF game or similar to its type. Overall i just have to say the game is way too hated, Yes the map isn't the best, like yes its bigger, But it really doesn't have any good locations for ambushes and other stuff to happen, unlike its predecessor, The factions are mostly ripoffs of their own predecessors, But the detail put into the system, and some of the mechanics of the game is just too overlooked. Thats my opinion, don't gotta agree with it but, Just statin the obvious.

people hated ATF 8 for how unoriginal the faction, and how bland the map they say they talk about how the faction in ATF 8 resemble that of the Fallout faction, and something about them being bland, aswell as the map, they hated the snowy atmosphere, calling it "dystopian cyberpunk" ish or something but honestly, i like the settings, with the faction very easy to understand, and the snowy atmosphere is up to my liking, as for me who never experience wintertide in my country, its nice to see and immersed myself in a wintertide

I mean, I get where they're coming from.. kinda. The USRF are basically the Enclave. (Post-war US military that believes itself to be the true america.) The Alumni are essentially the Brotherhood of Steel (Tech-hoarding archivists who focus on preserving history via artifacts and scripture.) and Southpoint State is sort of like the Railroad. (Group that fights everyone else for the sake of an untrusted minority) Of course, I am in no way saying these factions are bad, nor am I calling wintertide bad - I'm an ATF fan to the end. I'm simply voicing the similarities of the factions that might lead people to draw the conclusions mentioned in your comment. ...anyways *glory to the USRF!*

Also since you dont even play anymore why do you care what I think about this game? Am I in the wrong for liking something about this game in your eyes or something? I honestly thought both atf 7 and atf 8 had awful roleplaying experiences so I appreciate how this game is better over atf 7. The point of the video isnt to worship the game for its upgrades to the old one cause who cares if the rp is awful. The reason for this video is because I find that for different reasons neither game was really fun to rp in so the only thing to really look at is the new systems and talk about the hope for the future games with these new systems. I also never said anything about anyone being in the the wrong for not liking the systems but I think at that point if you cant appreciate the systems when the role-play is also awful then you are literally waisting time when playing this game.
