It's amazing it took this long for a robo-vacuum to just lift up the mop pad so it can mop and vacuum at the same time. Seems like such a simple and obvious improvement.

I've seen those at Amazon but can't see anyone really putting them trough tests like you. Second one, do you test air seal on these? I remember watching a video of yours mentioning how important is to have a sealed vacuum and was wondering how robot vacuums address that. Nice review. That no go mop zones with mop lift were the things missing. Never use the mopping function on my S5 for those reasons. Dont know where to put in a software request but love to see a function that lets the bot run diagonale lines instead of parallel to walls. I got tile flooring with pretty deep, rounded grooves and the S5 rocks, jumps and rumbles around hitting those grooves at 90 degrees with that small, hard front wheel. Or maybe just enlarge the wheel….

Because of this review I'm a proud owner of the S7 bought during Amazon Prime. Single dude here - 5 cats - 3,000 sq ft house. I HAVE MY LIFE BACK! Mop function works better than I had imagined. I still use one of four Dyson's for the long thick pile carpet in the bedrooms. The Zones are working nicely. As I type I delegated the S7 to clean the laundry room via the app. Coming from an older Neato, I was concerned about the small dust bin...well upon closer inspection I noticed there is a piece of plastic to remove inside so that when the AutoEmpty device comes out, hopefully this will resolve the smaller dust bin size. The thin profile fits under the furniture that I previously would have to contort myself into to yoga positions to reach with my Dyson V10. I do wish it was better at avoiding cords....Since Covid my great room has become my PhotoStudio and there are cords everywhere. This has forced me to be more organize with my cord management, which is actually a good thing. Besides that, my floors are cleaner than before life with the S7....for the time savings alone it has paid for itself in the 3 weeks I've owned it...I feel like I have a portion of my staff back (without any HR issues).

I've seen people complain that those plastic "teeth" on the brush housing make contact with the floor and will eventually leave scratches on hard floors. I'm considering the S7 myself but I'm a bit sceptical after seeing comments like that. I don't want my brand new floors scratched! Would be great if you could look into this and perhaps address it in a video? As a KZitemr myself I can definitely see a video like "Robot vacuums - Will they scratch your floors?" being quite effective in getting views. :) Apparently, the rubber brushes used on the S7 and on Roombas as well are more likely to leave scratches on floors vs a soft brush that has been traditionally used on Roborocks up until now. I watched another video on another channel where they tested the robots on a plexiglass surface to see if it would leave scratches. The rubber brushes would make more contact with the floor, and once they became dirty they basically sandblasted the floor, leaving lots of scratches. The softer brushes however did not leave any scratches. This can possibly be avoided by cleaning the brushes often, but I'm more worried about those plastic bits that are sticking down from the brush housing on the S7. If those make contact with the floor then it will almost certainly leave scratches on hard floors after a while?

Just finished my first use of the S7 today. It replaced an i7+ that stopped working twice and was returned after 30 days of ownership. Based only on this 1 use, I don't think it vacuumed the carpets in my home quite as well as the i7 (when it worked) but the difference is. minor. The S7 vacuumed our tiled floors much better and the mopping function works surprisingly well. --- Unlike the i7, which I thought was on a mission to destroy the legs on all my furniture, the S7 goes about its business in a much more gentle fashion. the i7 got stuck under my fridge, the S7 got stuck between a wall and reclining chair. --- My one concern with the S7 is that when it got to less than 20% battery left, it announced it was going back to the dock, but then announced it couldn't find the dock and needed to be carried back. I'm going to move the dock and hope that doesn't happen again.

@@HunterGeophysicsAustralia Only a little. After further use, we found this to be a random but persistent problem that happened 50% of the time. It doesn't seem to matter where we put the dock as it will find it only half the time. @HunterGeophysicsAustralia
2 жыл бұрын
@@melprophet1936 that’s disappointing. I wonder how prevalent the issue is. I also wonder how it finds the charger/dock, e.g. does it remember where it is on the map and then uses its LiDAR to get there, or does it use some other means to locate it (e.g. triangulation with some sort of radiotransmitter). If it’s the latter, I wonder if its signal is being blocked by the material in your walls… have you tried to run it only in the same room as the dock a few times and seeing if it can consistently detect and return to the dock?
@melprophet1936

@@HunterGeophysicsAustralia Yes, we tried only running it in the same room and it was more likely to find the dock but still not always. There was very little rhyme or reason to it. -- They explained how it was supposed to work but I honestly don't recall as I've moved on from the thing completely. Thanks for another sensible shoes review, Mr. VW. You may have mentioned this, but can the robot sense carpet and lift the mop or do you have to tell it where the carpet / hard floor is using the app? So many great things about it, but the “main brush might be blocked” error is chronic and annoying AF. So annoying, I ended up cutting down the bristles which helped decrease the frequency of the error, but surely negatively affects the performance. I was really surprised by his test result here, I had the exact opposite result. Long hair is my bane, I have 2 long haired ladies and 4 pets (one long hair.) I've always just accepted the reality that my vacuums are gonna get clogged with hair. With my first robot vacuum I would have to remove the brush to clean/cut out the hair literally after every run. I got my S7 2 weeks ago and I freaking love it, not only does it mop well but it's been great with the hair. I run it daily and have only had to take the roller out once to clean hair. Almost all of the hair bypasses the roller and is swept into the bin and the hair was much easier to clean off that roller than a brush. Night and day difference for me.

Hello, I’ve had my s7 for about a month and just recently noticed it scratches my timber floors. I only used it a handful of times before I noticed the scratches but they are quite bad. I think it may be due to the new brush and enclosure design. I also have an older model with bristle brushes and never had any problems. Really disappointing as I was looking forward to the new due to the improved mopping function. I will be returning my one.

Would love to see a thick carpet test and a black carpet test. I have a Ecovac t8+ it can not navigate black carpet without covering the fall sensors and it gets stuck on thick Rya carpets. So been wondering how the other robots are doing i regards to this. A cheap one to test is ikea lindknud, i can make the robot pass over this carpet but not wacum it.

Just got a 2nd one of these for my upstairs, which is all carpet (except the bathroom). It will not drive over my carpet at all with the mop attachment and side brush installed. The side brush gets tangled and the mop attachment causes too much resistance that the robot thinks it's stuck. I had to remove them for it to work. Not a super big deal. But means I have to reinstall all that stuff of I wanna mop my bathrooms. But I think I'm gonna skip mopping the bathrooms with the roborock, and instead use my Bissell steam mop. That's more sanitary and not too much more of a hassle.

Is there any particular robot vacuum you would recommend for a rough hewn slate floor? The uneven surface seems to give some of them trouble.

I watched in other of your videos that you used to use in you house the deebot T8, what would you prefer deebot or the ine in this video

Can you swap the roller and the new housing into an older model? That might be a nice way to have the best of both worlds....higher suction, better contact....and save money by a retrofit.

They should build a robot lawnmower with small local gps system, so you dont need to put out a guidecable
@PragmaticTornado

Absolutely. No idea why they haven't done this yet - I'm in the market for a new lawn mower myself, but due to the hassle and uncertainty of setting up for a robot mower, I may just get a gasoline mower instead.

My wife works at iRobot, and she said that they are working on a lawn mower to be released in 2022. Don’t quote me on that though.

I wonder if that plastic piece inside the dustbin that blocks part of the filter affects the airflow. The new dust bin that comes with the self empty bin for the S7 does not have the plastic piece so I wonder how it compares with the original dust bin.

Roborock recently came out with a cleaning solution that is approved for use in the S7 - would love to see a mopping comparison with and without the cleaning solution!

Do you know if iRobot's roller design has come out of patent? I saw an Ecovac (T9, I think Japan release only so far) that had almost the exact same roller as an iRobot, and this roller design also looks like it might infringe on that old patent.

The iRobot patent covers "Autonomous floor cleaning robots that use counter-rotating extractors." They don't have a patent on the materials used for the extractors, just if they're counter-rotating or not. At least as far as I'm aware

We bought an S5 based on your comparison recommendation, couple of years ago. So far it has served as well for vacuuming. We tried the mopping feature, but it was suboptimal, and faster to do it by hand. Now you have me curious if it's worth upgrading from the S5 to this one.

What our s5 max struggles most right now is in our corridor. Its a narrow corridor and there is a carpet going along with it. But there is a 5cm gap between the wall and the carpet and it cant pull the dust there, even the big ones. Also while leaving the carpet, it cannot pull the hair stuck just at the end of the carpet. I hope they figure that out someday edit: s7 might solve our second problem maybe with its new moving plate but i think first problem would still persist

plenty innovation in one gen. i wonder if the floating brush is valuable for stick vacs and that rubber brush! If this device lacked something is the particle counter/detector which could save battery life and potentially better cleaning.
