Full playthrough of the game as Miriya. Those Zentraedi never knew what hit them. Check out the original Game Boy Advance playthrough here: • Robotech: The Macross ...
Just beat this game on GBA and had such a good time. Robotech/Macross is one of my all-time favorite anime but there's so few games for it, especially in English. I think it's not as difficult on GBA because of the clearer visuals, and the hit-boxes are a lot better as well, but it still wasn't easy. Once you get past the first couple levels and can start ranking up your stamina it's not too difficult though. I game over'd once on the second level but after that I was pretty much in the clear. I think I had 13 lives by the end. Learning to shoot the enemy missiles and the spinning bullets instead of trying to avoid them was definitely a game-changer for me. Played as Rick the first playthrough because for the first time in anime history, the main character actually gets with the best girl. XD The special weapons are based on number of shots from what I can tell, so you can get a better weapon but you can't spam it. I think they did an amazing job with the visuals, music, and with making a game that was challenging but not grueling, plus it was really nice to have the missions be named the same and based off of their episodes. I just really wish it was longer. Like you said, there's very little reason to change out of Guardian mode. I changed to battloid just to shoot people behind me, and I basically never used fighter mode except for when I needed the smaller hitbox in a couple areas but that's about it. Would've been cool to see a couple levels that encouraged you to use the fighter by removing the ceiling and floor, or better yet, make it so that the fighter does more damage, it's just harder to control. Then you could have a couple levels that were too tight to fly through so you had to use the Battloid or something. That one's a bit harder. Having on-the-fly mode switching is an absolute must though so if they have to give up a bit of level variety for that, then it's all right. Overall there's a lot of missed potential, but for a licensed 2002 GBA shmup with coop, shit's dope. So awesome to find out about this remake too. This must've been a passion project because there's actually no way someone would greenlight a remake for an obscure GBA game about an even more obscure 80's anime lol. Can't say I wasn't in tears when the crappy 16-bit version of We Will Win kicked in during Force of Arms haha, what a blast. Would've definitely been cool to have the huge missile barrage just for that level or something. They do actually give you a separate Congratulations screen at the end for every character in the game on the original. Really disappointing to see that they don't have a cutscene or footage from the show or anything, that's pretty lazy lol. Thanks for doing a playthrough of this game. It was really cool to see all the differences. I'll definitely have to pick this version up too. Oh, and don't worry about that dude telling you not to talk, someone shit in his Wheaties as a kid.

Thank you for your very kind words! I loved Robotech as a kid, but I was never able to catch the full series. I also didn't own a GBA back in the day, but I did play Super Dimension Fortress Macross game in the NES. I also never made it past the first level, lol. Given that I love Robotech, I jumped on this game as soon as I saw it in the Nintendo e-Shop. I would like to know who greenlit this project so I could shake their hand, haha. In this game I didn't like the fighter at all, especially with Miriya. It moves way too fast and I find it very difficult to make precise adjustments to avoid enemy fire, enemies, or obstacles. As for the missiles, I would also have liked to have the missile barrage, or something that evoked it, like the way Raystorm, another SHMUP handles it. It first locks on targets, and then about 5 (I think they are beams) missiles just shoot forth. It's not the crazy Robotech barrage, but that would've been cooler than the single missile shots we got here. All in all, I loved the game, and am still slowly progressing with other characters. I'm having a lot of trouble with Miriya's Zentraedi mech. It's too big of a target sometimes. I also unearthed my original Xbox, and am thinking of making playthroughs of Robotech Battlecry, and Robotech Invasion. Thanks again for your kind words, game on!

@@rougedrake I can see how Zentraedi Miriya would be hard mode haha, that hitbox would be massive. I haven't quite gotten to her yet. I've just beaten the game with Rick and Roy so far but I definitely want to do it with every character. Would be cool to do a run just using the Battloid and Fighter too, if it's even possible. Using Fighter mode with Miriya especially would actually be impossible because I think she has maxed out piloting by default. Plus she has low stamina and the worst strength too. Looking back, you probably picked the worst character to start with XD. Definitely didn't make things easier at least. I would really love to see you play through the Xbox titles. I just got those two myself but haven't dived in yet. I had Battlecry as a kid but I think I was too bad to get past the second level lol. I really gotta play those soon. Still need to watch MOSPEADA before I play Invasion though, admittedly. 😅

@@agroed I got to the Viva Miriya mission with her Zentraedi mech. I need to get through that bullet hell without dying so I have enough lives to survive the final battle, LOL. Miriya is, gameplay-wise, the worst character to start with in my opinion as well, but I'm stubborn. I was going to finish the game with her and I did, through dogged stubbornness more than anything else. I got Battlecry back in 2005, but never finished it. I don't even remember where I left off, or how far I got. I'll be restarting for sure. I recall liking the cel-shaded graphics a lot, and the fact that it was a Robotech game. I also picked up a PS3 Macross game a few years back, but it's in Japanese and I can't read it X.X. As for Mospeada, I remember loving the Cyclone (motorcycle/armor) but I never got to watch the full series. I only watched a few episodes here and there when I was a kid because it always came on at 12 pm on open TV, and I was still at school at the time. I'm gonna have to remedy that.

@@rougedrake Macross 30's definitely on the list for me as well, but when I saw it was an RPG I decided to pass on it for now. Not speaking Japanese is always the struggle. XD One of my main goals in life is to become fluent one day. I recently got my hands on Macross: Do You Remember Love on the Saturn, which is only in Japanese. It's a shmup that's insanely gorgeous and plays really well with a 2.5D style (actually has the missile barrage BTW, hell yeah!) but holy Kris Kringle is it hard lmao. As in, it makes this game look like a cakewalk. Really wanna get further into it soon. Maybe something to check out if you have the chance. I definitely got the bug after finishing this game. 😁

You can use either or, depends on what's more comfortable. It would be terrible if you could only use the cross though, particularly for me in the Destroid levels.

Thx for the video. For people without skill or patience to go trough the game, cheat codes are aviables. Infinite lives, max characters, unlock lvl etc.. not fair but the last lvl are hell and everyone dont have the time to spent and beat it fairly. Like me.

Glad you enjoyed it! Cheat codes can be great fun. I'm a firm believer that everyone should play the game however they like as long as they don't ruin the experience for others. Multiplayer should be cheat free, but cheats on a single player game don't matter. Just go have fun, see the story and enjoy the game!

So Robotech.. is actually 3 different Japanese OVA’s that a US company took rights to 19:01 in the 80’s. The Macross Saga is the best and first part. The US company overhauled the music and made it way better.. and changed some minor details for the better for western audiences. They called it Robotech .. Macross SDF-1 iirc is the original show that was used. It’s basically the same but with super shitty music, and Anime fans think thats the pure one. All other Macross media is basically the same as drinking hot piss it’s so bad.

Three entire series, not OVAs, but yes. Robotech is...kind of a monstrosity. If you can watch the actual SDF Macross series, please do so. You can probably ignore Southern Cross (gen 2 in Robotech). Haven’t heard anything much about Mospeda(the third section of Robotech).

This version is available for the Nintendo Switch. You can find it in the Nintendo E-Shop. The game was originally a Gameboy Advance title. I've seen the physical cart on Ebay, but I'm not sure where to get the ROM for it.

Thanks for the video. Is ot possible to select the mission in mission select screen? It says navigate but the screen won't change.
@rougedrake
Жыл бұрын
I hopped back into the game, and tried to navigate in the mission screen. The controls, as you mention, don't do anything. I couldn't find anything on the web. It doesn't seem possible to select a specific mission to play on, and the navigate element seems to always present, even when it doesn't apply. In other screens, such as the pilot selection screen, you move the thumbstick to select your pilot. My assumption is the developers did not add a condition to hide the navigate element from the User Interface when you reach the mission screen. Thus, the prompt to navigate is there, but it doesn't actually do anything. I'll report back if I find data contrary to this.
