How about a wax actuator like in washing mashines? Should be enough and needs Not more than a Heat source and some wax. Or get the finished part as they are manufactured in the billions.

That's a nice idea- a bit unpredictable as far as the angle, as long as you just want full, complete cycles- it's a grand idea- thank you!

Why this channel isn't bigger is beyond me. I have a handful of people that I support, Mr Carlson's lab, Blondie hacks, and now here. It's the combination of tone, quality of content and, frankly, heart.

as always, you are an inspiration for me (an aspiring R&D roboticist/electromechanical engineer) I wanted to ask, could you please describe how you make those bent sheet metal parts? Would make a really cool video!!
@leosbagoftricks3732

These were made by a Chinese sheet metal vendor. There is a sequence in "When Robots Attack" that goes into home brew sheet metal parts.

was looking for stirling engines a few days ago, today was recommended your channel. subscribed. this video made me want to share this idea i drew yesterday: how about stirling flowers? with chains of rods that bring heat from an external source, even like a volcano... and water cooling 'petals and lotuses' that house internal electricity generating pistons and pipes... which -slowly- move and brush...

Great video and beautiful flower.. the motion appears to be very smooth. I've been searching for a flower like yours for my Tiki project. Would you be willing to share or sell your STL file so I can try it myself?

Incredibly beautiful! I love how meticulous you are with your work. Let me ask you something. I’m no robotics engineer. But how would you make it look like a synthetic vine is creeping or growing?

Think you could show how you decided on the lighting solution for each one. I seen the ring of smd leds which was cool. I like you am a sucker for art, clocks, finding ways to make leds not cheesy and avoiding microcontrollers unless to control a motor.

this is such a cool project! if you were using a higher powered LED perhaps you could use the waste heat to actuate the flower petals using a shape memory alloy like nitinol?

I love it. A worm drive might be simpler than the rack and pinion. This way you wouldn't need to convert rotary motion into linear motion.

@@leosbagoftricks3732 The thing is, there is a BFDI character that quite literally is a robot flower.
