I see some big rocks went off to hide in the bush. Obviously they weren't expecting the loud bang. 😀 Even watching the big pieces of rock fly, it's still hard to imagine the force involved to get them airborne. Fascinating. 👍 I like your plan for the European Wasps. I would watch that video/playlist. One flew down my bike jacket a few years ago and I wont be forgiving any of them anytime soon. 👿

Oh, I reckon that I scared the daylights out of them rocks XJ. I was riding visor up one day and one went in and lodged next to my ear.... well that was a quick stop and helmet off, did not manage to sting me though. Another time I rode through a swarm of bees that were crossing the road... I just quickly put my chin down and blocked of my neck opening in my jacket, hitting all of these bees was like somebody throwing a handful of stones at me. The bees were moving house and taking honey with them... I was very sticky after this.
@xj9ox
3 жыл бұрын
@@demolitiondavedrillandblast Oh, you were lucky. I thought I got hit in the neck by a stone that a passing car had kicked up. About 5km later I felt the pain, pulled over into the car park of a roller door shop and began disrobing trying to find out what was causing the pain in my chest. All I saw was a European Wasp flying away and a large red welt coming up on the left side of my chest. Probably a good thing it wasn't a Red Back or a Tasmanian Funnel Web I suppose. I didn't like European Wasps much before that and now I consider them something to be dealt with using extreme prejudice. Bees are okay though and I have been stung plenty of times, mostly when I have been raiding their pantry, so I deserved it. I have seen a few swarms going up or down the main street in Wynyard much to the bikers' dismay. The Top Pub had a hive in one of their signs and the bees used to run out of space frequently. 😀

On TC's newly patented "that blowed up real good" scale, which rates for volume and destruction from the thrown material, I'll give this vid an 8 out of 10. Plenty of small trees were taken out on that 2nd shot. Big chunks flying everywhere on all the shots. For style, I'll give it a 8 out of 10 for the artistic slow motion of man sized rocks tumbling as if they were in a gymnastics meet. :-) (A Note on TC's patented "that blowed up real good" scale: Only Castle Bravo gets a 10 / 10, while the Storax Sedan shot gets a 9 / 10, so this rates top scale for conventional explosives.).

I had a fascinating experience as I was watching the shot at 12:35 with the resolution on auto and set at 1080p HD. My initial reaction had been to focus on the immediate and gratifying effects of the blast. But at about 12:35 I noticed the delayed influence exerted by the shock wave on the surrounding bush. When I replayed it and looked closer, I could actually see the refractive effect exerted by the compression wave on light passing through the surrounding air. It is most noticeable as a ribbon like effect all the way up the front left hand side of the hemispheric effect at around 12:44 and is totally Amazing!

@@demolitiondavedrillandblast That's the nature of the beast. The drilling is pretty mundane and slow. Not many enjoy the sound of a rock hammer/drill. More of us have skipped school to press our eye to the hole in the barricade fence of a construction site to see the giant machines gobble the earth and hear the Screaming Jimmie Detroit Diesels belching black smoke. You could do wonders for the future viewership of blasting video if you could get your local school board to install child size air drills and provide blasting cord on the playground alongside the crane/shovels that fire the imagination and inspire our youth. Blaster Girl got good reviews. NFL cheerleaders ? More excavator work is always welcome.

for the same load an uncovered shot will give more fragmentation because a lot of blast energy is conducted into the cover when the shot is covered. With an uncovered shot, you get more damage because of the interaction of the incident and the coincident shock waves traveling through the rock.

Are you going to name your hammers? Or at least put a number on them to keep track of them? I have ran in to the same problem with multiple tools myself. Love the show keep em coming.

Good idea, they came with riveted on Sno. plates... but they have all long since rattled loose and gone, I should stamp of engrave them. I have heard that another contractor bought some new drills and welded his initials on them... this shrunk the barrel and they would no longer function! Thanks for watching.

It's really impressive how controlled these shots are with a precision filling of explosives. You're not trying to blow it to mars, just break it up. Lot better than the double shotted blow that happened near here for a gypsum mine. Best part of a week to clear the highway 🤦♂️

Sounds like something went wrong at the mine, is there a video?

Morning Dave, Just having my morning cup of Coffee and watching your exploit's, I have been wondering this for some time, But when you do Forest jobs, Do you ever run into Snakes ? I have a friend Cara Bidmead, that lives there, has a Horse Farm like I do and shows me some pretty awesome snakes from time to time. Yes I love snakes and I don't kill them. We have some very large Rattlesnakes around our property so they don't bother me. Thanks Dave, Great Video.

Yes, I get to see a few snakes and most times they are heading the other direction. We have had Two occasions where the snake has been making a B line for us and we have had to move quickly. Another time a backhoe operator picked up a scoop of soil and grass and about 20 baby brown snakes fell out... that got us all dancing.

g'day Rich, it depends on what part of Victoria he is blasting in and what they local snakes are. in Maryborough Victoria we have Tiger Snakes (mostly nocturnal) so rarely sighted, and eastern Brown Snakes which are daytime hunters and thus a HUGE problem. people who walk their dogs off leash tend to have dead dogs. my sister in the Buchan area of Victoria has red bellied blacks in her garden. . my guess would be that Dave doesn't see many snakes as they would not like the vibrations from the drilling. edit: and the road works before he gets called in would drive them away.

@@amandagardner565 Thank you for replying Amanda, Here in Florida we have all kinds of Poisonous Snakes as you do there in Australia. Biggest one I have seen was a 10 Ft. Rattler on a Gulf Course job I was working on. He was about 3.048 meters and about 20.32 cm wide. Maybe 20 or so rattles. And yes I had to look the Metric stuff up.

Already said in the comments but i really enjoy the uncovered shots too and those are realy satisfying ! At 19:50, it look like a war battle field. Impressive. Thank you for the vidéo.
