I mistakenly labelled the magazine(s) as Mag-Tec. These are actually Check Mate. My blunder.

Outstanding review! I’ve got a Baby Rock on order and can’t wait till it gets here. I’m cuckoo for all things 1911😂. I’ll probably put checkered walnut grips on it but they ain’t cheap.

Very well built pistol. I got mine about 1 year ago, and have had zero malfunctions. I removed the black coating from the side panels of the slide and polished the steel, cut 4 vent groves in the top of the slide above the barrel, carved a set of groves in the front of the grip and made a set of wooden grip panels from rosewood. It now looks similar to a very expensive version of itself. It has become my primary concealed carry weapon because of it's reliability and accuracy.

It sounds like you know what you are doing. As I stated in the review, mine worked well with Sig Sauer 90-grain JHP, but had a few issues with the S&B FMJ. So, I am going to try a different brand of range ammo and re-evaluate. I really like this little pistol. Thanks for watching, and as I see, subscribing.

Just got mine two weeks ago, enjoyed your review very much. Like yours the trigger is a bit heavy at 8.25 pounds but I’m hoping after the break in it will lighten a bit. You seem very knowledgeable any advice on the trigger. I’ve had great luck with Remington range ammo 0 issues. Thanks and again great review.

Hello, James. Thanks for watching and I appreciate the comment. With regard to the trigger, I only have one thing - leave it alone. As springs and contact surfaces wear in, the trigger will smooth out naturally. There are several legal aspects to consider when tampering with or changing a trigger to produce a lighter pull weight than I care to go into. The only time that I would consider having a trigger worked on would be if a trigger makes the firearm unsafe to handle; otherwise, I learn it and train with it. That's just my $0.02 on the matter.

Thanks for watching and commenting. I agree! It would be nice if RIA would come out with a 15-round version like their double-stack full-grown 1911 - like the ROCK ULTRA HC 10MM 16rd.

I have recently begun my research and have started looking into .380 pocket size pistols. I stumbled upon the RI Baby Rock .380 but have heard bad reviews regarding the firing pin breaking over time, the trigger being a bit heavy for its size and issues cocking the barrel back and certain ammo jamming in the Baby Rock. Thank you for your video. You are the first person I seen do a through video on the Baby Rock .380. I’m still debating whether or not I should buy the gun for myself. Where do you stand now on the Baby Rock? Is it a reliable EDC gun?
@RangeRoninChronicles
Жыл бұрын
Thank you, sir, for watching and your questions. So far, I like the Baby Rock. It is not the most well-refined 1911, but it is reliable - as long as you can keep the grip safety pressed in when you are shooting. The grip safety really needs a memory bump for someone with my hand size. A person with a small hand size would probably not have any issue with it. The trigger is heavy, but does not seem that heavy when shooting the pistol. Over time and shooting, the trigger will wear in, as will the mainspring, which will lighten the trigger pull somewhat. Mine ran everything I could feed it. I ran Sig Sauer 90-grain V-Crown JHP through it with no issues. I recommend snap caps for dry-fire training. They will help cushion the firing pin and prevent it from battering the firing pin stop. If you like the 1911 in general, you will probably like the Baby Rock. I have to assume that you are familiar with the 1911 and the manual of arms involved in handling the 1911 Most folks would be looking at a Glock, Sig, S&W, etc. for EDC/backup rather than a 1911-based pistol. Good luck in making your decision. The only other 1911 Micro 380 that I would consider is the Kimber Micro 380. Of course, it is at a higher cost than the Baby Rock. It does not have a grip safety to contend with. Trigger pull weight is still somewhat heavy at about 6.5-pounds, but it is silky smooth. The Kimber, however, does take some break-in (several hundred rounds) before ti become reliable. The Baby Rock just rocked right out of the box.

@@RangeRoninChronicles Thank you sir. I do have one more question, how many rounds have you fired already on the Baby Rock? I think I will end up getting a Baby Rock and will follow back up in the near future. Also, thank you for the recommendation I will be buying snap caps for dry fire training as well.

@@greenpea96 I am up to round count of 300, so far with no issues (except mine). I recently tried Remington Ultimate Defense Compact Handgun 102-grain BJHP in it and it ran without issue, but I favor the Sig Sauer 90-grain JHP. My issue remains with the grip safety not having a memory bump. I don't have big hands, but I do have some finger length. The grip is small and I have to concentrate on pressing the grip safety in. The trigger does seem to getting better but I have not checked to see if the pull weight has changed. As a word, and since you are still shopping for a .380 ACP pistol, you may want to view my reviews on the Hellcat Pro, Glock G42, Sig Sauer P365XL, Ruger Security 380, and S&W Bodyguard 380. I also have two Bersa Thunder 380 pistol, one single stack and one double stack that have proven to be extremely reliable and accurate. I have not produced a video review of them yet, though, but will at some point. If you have a local range in your area that rents guns, it might be worthwhile to see if they have any .380 ACP pistols to try out. Good luck in your travels.

@@RangeRoninChronicles I actually already own a Glock 48 and a Hellcat Pro. Both are great reliable guns and easy to conceal. My dad owns a Bersa thunder single stack and I taken it to the range a few times. Nice small reliable gun. I think I will go on ahead and move forward with the Baby Rock. According to your video and the few questions you have answered already it’s a nice reliable gun just need to break it in and take it to the range so I can get a good feel. Honestly I want the Baby Rock so I can have as a backup gun to my EDC. Something I can carry in my pocket during the summertime.

@@greenpea96 Thank you for your response - and the conversation. You are correct that the G48 and Hellcat pro are excellent firearms. I think that you will like the Baby Rock. It has its foibles but nothing that can't be lived with. I have carried mine in the DeSantis Nemesis holster in my right pants pocket cocked and locked with no issues. You may find another holster that you prefer, but the DeSantis Nemesis has worked with my G42, Smith & Wesson Bodyguard 380, and Bersa pistols for pants pocket carry. Pick up a few magazines for it, and some good defensive ammunition, and you should be ready to go - after some time at the range with it, of course.😁

Thanks for watching! I have not seen an example of the Metro Arms version; therefore, I can't agree or disagree. What I have found is that they are unavailable at 100% of the on-line places that I checked. They must be popular. So far, I am satisfied with the "Baby Rock" in that it met my expectations. All I know about Metro Arms is that they are one of three major 1911 pistol manufacturers and exporters in the Philippines. If I run across a Metro Arms .380 in my travels, I'll try my best to pick one up and compare it to the "Baby Rock."
