I wouldn't say any of the characters make this film"hard to watch" I'd say you don't understand omars character. yes he's selfish but its because he wants to be famous and gets insecure when he notices angels talent and is worried she will leave him behind for better things and later he accepts that,he does develop and change towards the end of the film but i find this kind of character refreshing he's more life like because all people are flawed in someway its gets boring following a perfect protagonist around all the time knowing what he's/she's going to do and how they'll react imo when there's a flawed character your more interested to see what happens to them.

Demon Rantz it's not going to be a good movie, it'll be a movie about finding yourself and standing out and not conforming. Like every movie that's ever done that. It'll have inspiration from "Inside Out" "Toy Story" and probably others that have the same message. Secondly you're calling out a movie for capitalizing on a current trend. People love Emojis so why wouldn't they make a movie about them? Looks like they did a decent job at casting. Steven Wright as a Meh? Brilliant. It'll be a 3/10 maybe 4/10. Let Animat give it an honest review and not be swayed by public outrage.

It's amazing the kind of animation coming out when the Mouse was laid low in the 1970s and 1980s. Ralph Bakshi, Don Bluth, this. Character designs were refined from very "anthropomorphic animal" when the production began as Drats! to "practically human" in the end, so they should have rethought and dropped the evolved animals backstory entirely. For a team making their first feature (and making mistakes as a result) this was a very ambitious effort for the time. I applaud them for making the kind of film they wanted to see, but no one else was doing. Except Heavy Metal, maybe.
@animefan77

1:59- Usually in films like this, the villains are one-dimensional, cackling money grubbers or status hogs that act nice to the singers in order to exploit their fame for monetary benefits. Mok was either a legendary music artist that's always been amoral and is looking for ways to continue his legacy, even at the expense of others through an extra dimensional ritual; or an artist that started off with good intentions, but time and age declined his morality to the point that he was willing to conjure an eldritch horror just to be remembered forever. He also plays myself very low key and manipulative unless it's something that truly angers or drives him; which makes the lucid insanity of his plan stand out even more. And the creature itself isn't a demon, it'a eldritch abomination that was constantly changing, spitting out demonic babies as it was entering the heroes' dimension at one point and changed colors. It only stabilized as a red-orange, blue eyed humanoid monster just to give something tangible and not so bat-shit insane. It's something straight out of Lovecraft's mind that was co-drawn by Bakski and Giger.

As one who's seen both versions of the movie, I have to agree about Omar, especially in the original version. He's one of the worst protagonists I've ever seen. It's one thing to be a jerk with some sympathetic qualities, but Omar...the original Omar was intolerable. He promised Angel that he'd play both their songs at the beginning, but went back on his word because he wanted to be the center of attention. When Angel did start playing her song, Omar walked off the stage in anger. I mean, Dude! You don't walk off stage during the middle of a song! He treated the band like garbage, not even apologizing for his selfish behavior. All he does is excuse it, claiming that he wants it all. When he wasn't being an outright jerk and mistreating the band, he was useless and barely accomplished anything. The US Version luckily tones down on his rude behavior and he's slightly more tolerable.

anthropomorphic characters trying to take themselves seriously? It can work but you need good writing and good personalities. I think Don Blunt kinda mastered that. yeah I like this movie and didn't mind them being anthropomorphic, but the story telling and some of the characters did brought this movie down. If the characters were abit likable with a better personality, this movie might been pretty good.

'Rock & Rule' had a lot of issues, technically and story wise but if you look at it like 'Heavy Metal' with heart, something special arose from all that chaos. I think the team at Nelvana got the atmosphere right, Mok is a very well written and compelling villain voiced perfectly by Don Francks and getting Earth, Wind & Fire, Cheap Trick, Debbie Harry, Iggy Pop and Lou Reed at their peak, were a perfect get for a film like this and the time it was made. It really is a tragic shame that an official soundtrack never got released or a proper film HD remaster, due to a freak fire that destroyed the original print and tracks. Clearly, GOD hated this movie. Also, Dizzy was great.

Well, let me tell you about The Emoji Movie: even though I never understand Spanish, but the Spanish dub of The Emoji Movie really sucks to me!

The box office results of this movie is crazier than the movie itself, which is saying a lot

If only the soundtrack hadn't been destroyed. I'd at least buy "Send Love Through" and "Send Love Through Finale".

The mock lip movement is because his character was originally a parody of Mick Jagger, threat of a lawsuit, made them change the character considerably, but they kept the lip joke in. It’s all in the special features if you bother to watch them.

There's a channel here on You Tube called Mustacostafortune that is from the director of Rock and Rule Clive A. Smith. It even has a making of the film video.

I watched this with the impression it was garbage and it was better than I thought it would be. Mok had a good motivation (even if his methods to get there were a bit questionable) and an overall cool villain. Omar is leaps and bounds the worst character in the movie. I never liked him enough to want to see him redeemed.
