Awesome Video Kev! How fast does the steaming recoup between steaming session? Do you have to wait in between steam to build pressure back up (would it work with back to back steaming?... like steaming 200ml milk every 45 sec to 1 min).

Hello! Thanks for your videos. I just purchased the Sage (Breville) Dual Boiler and it's amazing! But I have one question: the top lid (plastic cover) is TOO hot to touch after 5 minutes of use. You can easily burn your hand. The rest of the machine is fine. Have you noticed the same thing regarding the lid when you used the Dual Boiler? Thanks!
@air90air

The top self is supposed to be hot. It’s designed like that to keep your cups warm.
@Coffee_Kev

It should be hot, but not boiling. I've just fired mine up, after 15 mins I can rest my forearm on it for about 20-30 seconds, and it's uncomfortable but it's not not enough to burn. I'd recommend getting onto support.

@@Coffee_Kev Thanks. I Just made exact same test as you did and after 15 mins I can rest my forearm on the middle of the top cover and it's seems ok. But from the right side it's getting too hot. You can steam immediately after the shot on Decent, so the time gain is minimal and for home use completely negligible, on regular single boilers the big draw back is having to wait until the temperature reaches steam temp after brewing. At least Decent is trying to develop the technology, Rocket Bicocca is a step back I would say, that machine has no innovations whatsoever, pid and scheduled on and off, you can do that with a $10 smart plug, seriously who buys a machine like that for over $4000.

Probably the most underrated machine on the market, the Sage or Breville DB. I have two that were battered, very high usage machines that my espresso engineer friend reconditioned for me, one I have as stock, the other with the slayer mod, they cost me a few hundred quid each including fixing up, and they're both working brilliantly. They're way more serviceable than a lot of people think too, especially if you're handy or know someone who is. Ta, Kev

I've only ever heard of this with bean to cup machines, fully auto machines, where there are various opportunities to get in and lots of nooks and crannies in there for them to chill, around the waste coffee grounds container, hopper & so on. If you do find a cockroach near your coffee machine, see if you can train it to make coffee for you, I hear they're smart!

This is one thing I'm really liking about the higher end of the market at the moment, it seems that the manufacturers are focusing more on doing their own thing rather than specifically aiming at capturing the markets of other machines, so it's giving more choice, more chance for people to find their perfect machine and less need to compromise. I'd say the closest comparisons are probably LMLM & VA Eagle 1 Prima, but neither of these three machines have exactly the same feature set or pros & cons etc. Ta, Kev

I love this machine, but I’m a little concerned about the longevity of the electronics. Especially above a hot and humid group head, not a good place for electronic circuitry. I’m sure Rocket have done a stellar job with testing and quality control, but after going through a couple of Sage/Breville’s over the years, I opted for an ‘Olde School’ type machine, from Rancillio, where serviceability is at the forefront. Do you have any thoughts on this? Great and informative video, as always.

The touch screen is in a ventilated space, on top of a solid group, so I can't see the placement of it being an issue for heat or moisture. They've designed this machine to be as serviceable as physically possible. Ta, Kev.
