Hi! I'm Rocket and I successfully thru-hiked all 2,198.4 miles of the Appalachian Trail in 2023. This had been a decade-long dream for me and surpassed all of my expectations!
I'll be posting videos to share what my thru-hike experience was like for other aspiring thru-hikers or people who are just curious to learn more. I was a first time thru-hiker and I had only been on 1 prior solo over-night backpacking trip before I set out on March 5, 2023. I hiked NOBO and summited Katahdin on August 30, 2023, bawling like crazy when I finally touched that sign.
In Video #4, I began to bond with my future tramily and had a ton of amazing experiences. I got to enjoy hiking with 21 on her last few days on trail, had a visit from an AT '22 thru-hiker-Leprechaun-on St Paddy's Day at the Lazy Hiker in Franklin, NC, and had one of my favorite nights on trail.
At this point in the trail, 100 miles felt like a million miles. I was grateful for every step I took and every view that left me speechless. The people really made this leg of the journey. I got to spend time with SheRa, a seasoned thru-hiker, and J-Wolf, an incredible person who Groundhog and I would go on to spend a lot of time with in the upcoming weeks.
They always say that hindsight is 20/20, but I give it a 6. ;) JK, but our tramily motto was to always leave room for a 10/10 experience!
How did the early days of trail go for you? Or how are they currently going? What milestone felt like your "I made it" moment? Which Groundhog or Wrong Way saying is your favorite so far? Let me know in the comments!
Happy trails,
Rocket!
