That and Sam did play a sport. Hockey. He came from the Kansas Midwest where it snows, and he played the golee in ice-skates. It wasn't so much that he was an inactive kid that had trouble with sports. It was more of a kid from the Mid-West adapting to the sub-culture of the beaches in Washington State. It's possible that his parents moved there both because of his dad's career and having him near the ocean to avoid trouble with his allergies. Some of his sluggishness is just having to deal with the temperatures of Ocean Shores more than anything.

I think the reason Sam hangs out with them is largely because of Reggie. And Reggie probably only hangs out with Otto because he's her brother. Plus, it's shown that Sam's a really good hockey goalie. One thing I respected the show for was that adults were often shown to be reasonable and that rules were there for a reason. There's one where Tito was babysitting them and he began cramping their style, so they ran off while he was sleeping so they wouldn't hurt his feelings. He caught them and said that while he understands needing time away from him, it wasn't okay to run off without telling him. Even Mr. Stimpleton, who was the most unreasonable adult on the show, had his moments, like where he took Otto golfing because Otto owed him for fixing his bike, and they both learned from each other (Mr. Stimpleton learn to be more aggressive in sports and Otto learned to be more patient, each learning that there was a time for both).

I actually used to really like rocket power, though to be fair I was in early elementary school. I really empathized with them I guess? mostly because at that time and age we didn't have a lot of agency, so my sister the neighbor kids and I would end up stuck playing with whoever was in the vicinity with whatever toys our parents got for us. which for kids in the late 90s early 2000s mostly meant 'indoor/sit down' toys like dolls, board games, and PlayStation, or 'outdoor/active' toys like balls, bikes, skates, and random plastic sports equipment. usually all mostly from yardsales. So in general everyone would get together in the middle of the street you'd figure out how and what to play together that day, with little accounting for things like if any of you actually liked each other that much. I guess nowadays when people watch shows or anime and they point at characters and are like "Ugh how are they childhood friends?! they've got nothing in common and don't even really like each other! why do they feel the need to put up with each other?!" I don't really get it because I can look at them and be like "yeah that one acts like my friend john, ugh I hate that guy. wonder how he's doing? I should look for him on Facebook, see if his butts in jail yet" or "Yep, an absolute unrepentant brat, reminds me of my friend Sarah. She was a nasty piece of work, spoiled rotten! Haven't heard from her in a while, we should get lunch next time she's in town." It sounds weird but those types of friendships happen pretty often and naturally, and not necessarily because you like each other. it's more like neighbor kid solidarity? It's sorta like how siblings go through patches where they fight a lot; just because they don't like each other doesn't mean they aren't family. only in this case it 'just because we don't like each other doesn't mean we aren't friends'. to be fair it's pretty flawed thinking, but it's also the thought process of a group of under-tens who are stuck together so of course it is.

That does seem like a safe starting year. That was also the year of other 90's-defining things like: • Sonic the Hedgehog and the first real Console Wars (June 23) • The creation of the World Wide Web (August 6) • The three original Nicktoons and the influence those had on television (August 11) • Beauty And The Beast, considered by many to be the peak of the Disney Renaissance (November 22) • The end of the Cold War (December 26) And a whole lot of other things. 1991 was a very big year.

This was another show Nick thought was going to be bigger than SpongeBob. Why wouldn't it be? It was about KIDS, playing SPORTS, and Klasky-Csupo was gold. The Nick Magazine cover from around the launch gives Rocket Power top billing, and pushes SpongeBob down into the periphery. I know SpongeBob has overstayed it's welcome and its misses far outnumber its hits at this point, but it's the one Nicktoon that really deserved to be a hit.

This was the only cartoon that my sister liked but I was lukewarm about. I think it was because she was into sports like skateboarding and rollerblading at the time and the fact that Reggie looks like my sister when she was a teenager. I didn't really care for it and mainly watched it when my sister was so that she didn't berate me for playing videogames.

The shoobie is immunized against all slangs: you might call him a bunk, a fool, larey, scrub, it all runs off him like water off a raincoat. But call him a shoobie and you will be astonished at how he recoils, how injured he is, how he suddenly shrinks back: "I've been found out."

I admit that when it came to the Nicktoon Summer Beach-House block, the Rocket Power Marathon would be my _least favorite day._ But regardless of that, there were times where even though I was watching it because nothing else was on...I actually did enjoy this show. Looking back, I actually do remember that a lot of episodes were pretty memorable, even if they were done in different shows. One episode sticks out with me; Super Squid - where Sam has designed a video game based on caricatures of himself and his friends - as well as Raymundo and Tito. And he has published the game online, to the point where the game has become a popular hit at school. That is until the rest of the group realizes that their counterparts in the game feature a most unflattering depiction of their worst personality traits, and they turn on Sam for it. I feel like that episode had a unique message in the end, because it's an effective showcase of both sides being equally wrong. The group starts out mad at Sam, but they eventually learn to take the joke and laugh at themselves, considering that Sam didn't mean them any harm. And Sam learns that - even though it wasn't intentional - depicting his friends in such an unflattering light wasn't fair to them; so he upgrades the game with a new iteration with much more accurate depictions and featuring the four of them as playable characters. And honestly, even though Enter is against the concept of Sam being friends with this group based on real world experience, I actually get a _genuine_ feeling of friendship from the group when it comes to Sam and with each other. (Though, I think with Twister it's because without Sam, _he'd_ be the Squid of the group.) And even though Sam is not as athletically inclined as they are...he's still a good goalie; and you always get in-good with the goalie.

Designated Hero: -Otto, unsurprisingly. He's highly inconsiderate and vain to everyone around him, and it certainly doesn't help matters that some of his enemies have extremely good reasons for antagonizing him to due to him being Otto. -Reggie, while not to the extent of Otto, occasionally has moments of this too.

I don't really understand his logic behind "the 90's begin in 1987" like that doesn't make any sense and if anything that was when the 80's were at their peak. The early 1990's felt more 80's then anything and it wasn't until around the mid 1990's or so and especially the late 1990's when the 1990's can fully be defined.
