This makes a lot of sense, it is a video to keep and practice before approaching and educating most DIY customers

How would you price installing new hangers. Old plastic one have snapped. It on first story. Do you price per new hanger installed or per foot of gutter? Thanks.

ok, not trying to bash you, your mind set of looking for the way to get up sells is where it should be. however your approach is no good. first your math is off by alot. 4"x4"=16" sq" x 12"= 192 cu" per ft. there is 1778 cu" in a cu' . so about every 9 ft is a cu ft of water, which weights 8.3 lbs . so the math is wrong and anyone who knows math will ask you to go away. second those are scare tactics " your gutters are so heavy WHEN they fall they are going to kill someone" " dont use that ladder, look it up, youre going to die". using real facts and not try to scare them is the best way. as a plumber i have to size downspouts, the chart is based on 100 yr rain fall. look up your area. it tells you what size pipe you need per sq ft off roof. those are the numbers that are effected. what cant go down the drop and out spills over the house, or causes ice dams. the water although contained in the trough will sweat on the back side, rotting facia. water that doesn't go through a downspout to the street from over spill ends up seeping along the foundation, hopefully into a sump pump. youd be amazed how many basement issues are caused by gutters and downspouts. these aren't scare tactics, they are true facts that are verifiable. and if a customer says they are going to do it themselves, dont try to talk them out of it, give them safety tips, tell them the easiest way to do it. odds are with you that in a month they still aren't done, and he'll call you anyway. if he doesnt at the least he feels you arent just out there to squeeze every penny and care about them as a customer and you'll get the other project he doesn't want to do. we dont want a customer for today, we want a customer forever. each one should be valued because there is no less that 1000 guys in your area who will be there today to do that job, and many are likely cheaper. they can call any of them, but they didn't so don't loose them now by spilling some false facts and scare tactics. i wish you nothing but success and thank you for posting

c1sinc.com/blog/four-steps-sizing-roof-drains here's a link to what i was referring too. the chart with the map is also in the plumbing code for your area. using code is a great help. what people say is "code" is actually called minimum code. its the bare min. you can squeeze by with to get an approval. so basically a d- in school. thats the upsell is upgrading their system to be an a+. many times you'll size it out and they will barely make the requirements, so then you explain they are at max capacity without a 1/8" of blockage, and they are full now. you upsell changing to 6" gutters, adding drops, ect. that's where the real money is.
