I like the small fluorite you dug up and the picture of a fluorite along with the spongy coral. They both look nice.

You should do a collection video, where you show the specimens you've collected over the years.

Best thing to do to find the source is to look for erosion ditches, also if the land gets plowed regularly look for a rake pile . These are piles of rock that would damage the plow or the harrow, so they cart them off to use in areas around the farm. Also farmers mined mica feldspar and quartz during the winter when farming slows down . The mica went to the stove industry, the feldspar to the ceramics industry and quartz to the sand paper industry. Here in Maryland we still find cobbling piles were these minerals are separated from each other.

Hey Lloyd, good to hear from you. A little depressing with the winter as of late. I'll give you a call in the spring to see if you're up for a B'croft trip.

Caver461 That sounds great , I'm looking forward to it . I've been skiing just about every weekend this winter so I've kept quiet busy , when I was up in Quebec a few weeks ago at Mont Saint Anne I skied past a few interesting rock outcrops . Would you know what types of minerals are in that area just north of Quebec city ?

I had the same difficulty. It's been muddy up that way since then. Now that the cold has set I might be able to get back up there and work on it. I have found some really nice crystals in this area in the past 3 years. Thank you again !!!!

Am practically panicking because I don't see where To go for that spot. I have been approaching from the store's parking lot, going over the hill. From the top of the hill, I saw big rocks at the bottom, very near the road. The hillside was all tall reeds way over my head. Got a tick trying to go there. Is it possible to just pull over at the side of the road and avoid trudging through the reeds? I have only found micro crystals and would be so elated to finally find a larger one.

Nice location to collect ! I appreciate you sharing this with everyone. What is the area like this time of year ? Is it teaming with snakes or wild animals in the warmer months ? ;-)

Have any of the boulders been moved since the last time you've visited? Also, what chisel do you use on the crevices along the rocks? Thanks!

So if someone offers me a rock with a sponge fossil, should take it and break it open? 😁 im guessing not all sponges will have crystals on top but if i see them in the sides of the rock it's a good chance from what you've said here

For sure - the spot is at the back of the mound. It's sat untouched since I left it yesterday unless somebody hurried off to continue on the boulder.

I am sure we have seen each other a few years back when I first moved here. I don't think anyone else has been up there. There are so many places to find around here. Over behind the YMCA also has some nice pieces. Some of my tools aren't just suited to take the massive crystals out. It's behind the truck. I wouldn't advise during the summer months as ticks have taken over the area sadly. But spring winter and fall are great times to hit these areas. I have found a fluorite half the size of my palm just laying on the ground beside the sidewalk. I found the smaller pieces of where it must have been smashed out by either dumping other rocks or children playing around there. I was very surprised to find such a specimen. Thank you again !!!
