Its a weird feeling for me to be critical of, still, pretty high end bike parts. To say, pish posh, this 600$ fork isn't good enough, 5 years ago I"d smack myself for sounding so snooty, but I have learned a few things over the years now. I wanted the Yari to be good, I did give it a fair chance, again, I think Rockshox made this not good on purpose to sell you on their more expensive stuff. Thanks for watching! Also I love Cobra Kai!

Some people are never satisfied. Others, like myself, are on the quest for the suspension "to be perfect." Total perfection is not reasonably obtainable. I am reasonably close to having a perfect fork set up for my riding with a Yari that has the Charger 2.1 and a Smashpot coil upgrades. I was spoiled in 2009 with I rode a bike with a Cdale Lefty RLC. 140mm of plush coil travel with dampener that had almost too many adjustments. I just glided over the "Babyheads" rock garden in Downieville. I have been in search for that plush but supportive fork even since I sold it. I have found it with the Yari/Lyric body and the Charger 2.1 and Smashpot setup

I have the Yari on my Haibike Allmtn, I bought it because I really liked the older version however the current model feels completely different to ride. First of all it comes with, 2 air tokens pre installed and to get the correct sag I had to ride a super low pressure which messed with the rebound and I still couldn't get full travel out of it. On longer rides it was killing my arms just felt harsh and unbalanced can't explain it just didn't give me any confidence. I have now removed all tokens and it feels more or less acceptable. I think I will definitely upgrade to charger when it goes in for a service. Never ridden a bike with a lyrik so I hope it will work better for me.

Hey there, they seem to change damper settings all the time, its likely motion control has been changed as well. I had the same experience that pressure to sag to rebound, it just didn't work anyway that I messed with it. Charger 2.1 is a lot more straightforward or even the Charger R (which is a different damper then 2.1 but still different then motion control) is probably better in the ways we need it. Try out a Lyrik on a friends bike with the right pressure and back to back you should be able to tell. I read every single thing that I could find on the internet and the differences were inconclusive. Thanks for watching!

Nice review, I recently got a Revelation and I feel the same way about it. Couldn't achieve proper small bump sensitivity without totally sacrificing mid stroke and vice versa. Kind of running a in-between compromise setup right now, still not completely happy with the way it feels. Looking for a Charger right now... is the improvement worth it in your opinion?
@Kingsoupturbo
Жыл бұрын
Thanks! that is totally how motion control works, they just don't seem to be able to achieve low bump and mid stroke in one. Shim\cartridge based dampening is a lot better for all worlds, although Marzocchi seems to be able to get open bath to work. The difference is huge in Charger to Motion control, all those lesser Rockshox forks, revelation, gold 35 etc are really just pushing you towards a pike\lyrik or a Fox 36\Z1\Manitou etc. Since having a good fork is really the cornerstone of a good MTB, the motion control has got to go! (although on my fat bike the Bluto is ok, the demands on snow are less then mountain riding) thanks for watching!

Thank u for your video. Very informative. I was thinking about switching from Rock Shox Revelation to Yari (both Motion Control damper) but I will try to get FOX 36 or Charger 2.1 My RS Revelation 2019 feels so wooden and harsh no matter what I do. I agree with U. I think RS does it on purpose to make us get more expensive damper or top end fork. I have tried Fox 36 rythem and Marzzoci bomber Z1 and they are nice na plush despite being "basic" :)

My Yari came from RockShox with far too much oil in the dampner. I used a fork oil leveling tool (syringe), $15-20 amazon, set at the length of the motion control damper so the oil level was right at the base of the damper and it made it ride much better and also allowed use of full travel. .... I also added a shim hack to open up the high speed chamber a little sooner. Coming from a Lyric Ultimate Plus on my Hightower, I'm happy with the Yari after proper tuning including adding an additional volume token to adjust for my weight and riding style.

Hey there. I had the same questions, and I looked at forks from Germany like the DVO and Ohlins, in the end since the entry level Lyrik has the Charger R version of the Damper that is technically a lesser version of 2.1, I got the 2.1. But maybe Charger R is totaly fine? I've never ridden one. What I do know is I hate selling things on pinkbike and upgrading the Yari I already have with the fanciest 2.1 damper was about the same cost as a Lyrik. Or keep your eyes open maybe for a used Fox36, hopefully prices are coming down now that restrictions have been lifting. Thanks for watching!

Completely agree, had a 2021 160mm Lyrik ultimate on my old bike, sold that, waiting on new one, have a Giant Reign 29 2 with a 2021 170mm Yari as a loner, and the fork is terrible. So harsh, arm pump, and hand fatigue is crazy, can’t hold a line, can’t maintain speed, like almost unusable on the decently rough stuff. It’s my mates bike, so I installed a 2.1 RC2 as a thank you for the lend of the bike. It’s a night and day difference, fork performs just like the Lyrik ultimate now.

Have to say this even now, I’m upgrading from the Yari to Lyrik ultimate 2.1, not 3. Found a killer deal for 450 and couldn’t pass that up. Will I notice the difference from the charger 2.1 to 3? Probably not. But going from the Yari to Lyrik will be night and day. In regards to the feel of the Yari, absolute trash in rock gardens or anything chunky, I’m not professional but if I was any less skilled I’d be unable to hold a line and wash out. I put carbon bars on and that’s helped the hand fatigue from the constant jarring. I’m excited to swap out forks and get the suspension actually dialed. Thanks for an honest video.

Hey there! I looked at the specs on Charger 3, they claim a lot of things, I am not sure if it'll work out to be better low bump compliance as they claim etc. Charger 2.1 has been great for me, its setup pretty well from the factory, its a great improvement over Motion control. Its like ok in mid stroke, but it lacks bottom out and low bump, shim stack based dampening like in the Charger can be adjusted for all these things. All higher end dirt bikes\Street bikes\Mountain bikes have this system, for a reason! thanks for watching and have a great summer!

Thats a cool bike! Its always hard to know, sell the Yari and get a 36 or upgrade the Yari? Hey there! I tried everything on mine and had the same problem. The motion control damper is just not capable of doing low-bump/mid stroke and bottom out, the Charger 2.1 is a shim stack based damper which can be tuned to have all of those things motion control does not. Personally Charger 2.1 is probably the most economical way to go, but you could always sell the Yari, snag a used Fox 36 or something on Sale from Germany etc. Other people who have commented on this video have echoed the same experiences I had with the Yari. Thanks for watching and have fun riding!

I can tell you that tge IFP charger (Charger RC) is way better than the motion control damper. It's a night and day difference. It's almost as good as a Charger 2.1 but not quite there, say 80-90%. The MoCo feels just weird imo.

@Kingsoupturbo

An interesting comparison, SR can make really nice forks and the Durolux has shim based dampening control, I bet its better then the Yari as its their premier fork. But the Yari with Charger is probably better, I'd check some reviews on that. Thats the thing, a good fork counts for so much, if you can get a bike with a Z1 or DVO or SR which is better then a Yari, good value.
