I certainly miss this generation of tennis, but it's crazy how modern tennis is so different. There were so many Americans that dominated the sport for a while up until the big 3. Now I feel that next gen tennis is on another level. Rallys are longer, players are running down balls and sliding. There wasn't much sliding back in the day either.

It's important to note that the courts were also very different back then as well. With the exception of clay, the other surfaces played faster than they do today. They started slowing down the grass courts starting in 2002, followed by a steady reduction in speed of all the hardcourts after 2005, and then a complete elimination of carpet courts. This had the effect of homogenizing the court speeds at "medium", which benefits grinders and results in much longer rallies.

roddick was such a simple puzzle for agassi - hit it to his backhand and you'll win 70% of the points.

If a semiretired Andre Agassi beat the current Us Open Champion Andy Roddick imagine the prime 1999 version of Agassi!

Agassi had like 3 different primes. A bunch of grad slam finals lost and then finally winning Wimbledon in ‘92…tearing through the summer hardcourt season but losing to Pete at the US Open in 95…. Then the period from 99 to 03, when really only Federer could consistently handle him. Last couple years were up and down, but he still made another US Open Final.

I mean Andy Roddick has zero backhand, no wonder Roger creamed him in the 2000s.
