Are you using the same mic throughout the video?I'm abit confuse which mic you are using in the second half of this video. Anyways great video, love to see more!

Indeed, maybe I should have made it totally clear with a caption, but at the outset I'm using the four mics of the Action 2. Then, when it switches to the left channel only in the car and I'm wearing the in ear mics, that's what I'm using. The last section in my garden uses the Sennheiser stereo shotgun self powered that you see me waving around a couple of times to show that the stereo sound is working with that one.

He appears to be using the 4.76 MIC-a-Tronic 5000s. Sounds really crisp and precise. Its almost like he is talking right next to you. Highly recommended but there is 1 problem with the 5000s and that's that it's locked in 60fps when you really want the 120fps Xbox series X

Yess, yess, thank you! So yes, I have encountered the same issue, and I was not sure if it is only me (=my device). It works fine with a stereo -< 2xmono splitter I have. Maybe a bit soft, but it is 2am, better have some sleep first...

Have you tested the Roland in-ear mics and the Rode AI-Micro with some other device, such as a phone or a computer? I'm wondering if the Action 2 is supplying enough power over USB-C, since it would have to power both the Rode AI-Micro and the microphones. In any case, thanks for showing this interesting device. I can think of a few audio connection issues I've had that the AI-Micro would have easily solved.

Good question - I've tested it with a couple of Android phones, and iPhone (6, with iOS v.12 which technically isn't actually supported) and my PC. The problem is the same with all of them. Oddly, I cannot see anything amiss with PiP when I measure it in a no-load state - it seems correctly supplied in stereo mode and in mono mode - weird. Now on the PC I only tested it using the Windows app that Rode supply, which doesn't support stereo anyway. What I will do is to configure it for stereo in the Android app, then try it with the PC to see whether I get stereo in a 'normal' Windows recording app, and if so, whether the problem is still evident. Testing, testing... thanks for giving me that idea.

when you connect it to your phone to change settings, do the settings stay saved in?

Yes, they have come up with a potential workaround that I will be testing in the next few days. I'll probably upload another video if it works.

@@Ozpeter Just got mine today.. Firmware update 1.1.9 on the Micro using it with my iPhone and same issue as yours.. Right channel not working (or at a minuscule level) when using Stereo (Input 1) mode. Hope they come up with a new firmware soon.

And the sound quality is really good.... Can't wait for Rode to unlock the full potential by fixing the 3.5mm stereo mode.

@@JohnChu It works with an SC11 lead from Rode, with a 3.5F to 3.5F adapter, so that the stereo signal from the mic can be split between inputs 1 & 2, set to record on L & R. Not elegant but the leads and interface can be stuffed into your pocket with a longer USB lead going from your pocket to the camera.

@@Ozpeter If the workaround is the splitter cable--- then the AI-Micro is little better than the previous Rode SC-6L (except for the compatibility with other devices and platforms). I rather continue using a Sennheiser Ambeo Smart Headset with my iPhone to record binaural in that case. However, I can see purchasing 2 separate mono lavalier type units and plug one into each channel directly if I had to go that route. This seems like something Rode needs to fix with a firmware update, a revised hardware box or a discounted splitter cable for owners.

@@mrheng562 I don't think Rode sell them - which would explain why they seem not to have tested one. If I recall correctly the video you mention used the Roland binaural mics via a Zoom F1 connected USB > USB.

Since the stereo mics that didn’t need power worked, does that mean you can plug in a stereo signal directly to either input? I have some music equipment I would like to just plug a TRS stereo cable into it, or I can use a TRS to TRRS adapter maybe, but I thought the inputs are mono so I didn’t order it. The size and everything would make for an excellent interface to plug into an iPad with USB-C

So much gear, so little time - it's actually been a while since I've used the Rode device, but as memory serves me, the input 1 can be set to stereo, and I would expect it to work as a stereo line input - except you'd have to be careful with the level as it expects a mic I think. If I have a chance to test in the next couple of days, I'll report back here.

@@Ozpeter I didn't think about the difference in the signal levels. This morning in a video I saw you can get a line level attenuation cable which might help prevent damaging it. Its nice to see some of these small devices pop up, but they are targeted at videographers not musicians.
