I have the NT1 and use it for voice over, mainly for long-form projects like audiobooks/narration. But the NT2-A seems to have a little more personality for lower voices with the smoother air frequencies (better than the NT1-A) and clearer, more stable sounding lows. The NT1 is a great mic but it doesn’t quite have the “ass” that the NT2-A can produce.

Alright It will be mostly down to your preference but let me help you a bit. If you want the featurea like the high pass filter, the pads and the different polar patterns, if you have an actual use for all these features that add up to the price, I'd say get the nt2a. However, if you don't need all that, I know I wouldn't spend an extra amount of money for features I won't use, get the nt1, because they both sound great in my opinion. Listen to bandrew's and other people's reviews abıut these two mics to find out someone with a similar voice to yours so you can tell which could fit you better as well if you dont care about the extra features on the nt2a Edit: and obviously the space where you record matters as well, from what I know now, nt2a will pick up more background noise because of its larger diaphram, which also means you would be getting more detailed recordings of voice if you have a good acoustically treated space, so its a blessing and a curse. However I havent heard stuff like that for the nt1, you should look into what you want tho. At the end of the day, someone from the comments or Bandrew himself will help you make a decision, but it's up to you what you like

This is a late response but the sE2300 could be worth a listen, same form-factor as the NT2-A. I really like the Lewitt LCT 441 Flex it's the same $ new. I like the Rode sound and quality and low noise floor, in general, but they are solid state and seem a bit too 'crispy' at times.

@datalix3849

any tips for not making a female vocal not sound like a violin? Proximity? My input is not clipping or anywhere near clipping but vocal sounds a bit hot and crispy? Shure Sm57 doesn't do this with my setup? (protools and M-audio Duo)
@Podcastage
I'm not sure why this would sound hot and crispy compared to the SM57. This is basic so I'm sure you're not doing it, but I would make sure that when I'm setting my levels, the faders in protools are set to unity (0db) so I'm not skewing what you see and leads to you setting your gain too high. Then make sure the correct polar pattern is set, try setting the high pass filter at different settings. But other than that, I have no idea why this would sound like it's clipping (assuming your gain is set properly).
