The NTG sounds way better when recorded with an external recorder.

Been considering these 2 mics, I think you helped me go for the NTG5 Love the clear, warm noise and wonder what difference it will make if I boom it over my head. One of the best comparative review I’ve seen, keep this A/B mic format + you’re one of the rare ones who tries them in a realistic room. Only thing I would’ve added would be a test from booming them over your head ! Cheers :-)

Thank you!!! I almost always boom these and they work amazingly. I’d go with the NTG5 if you can. Cheers :)

You make really great quality video. I don't understand the low subscriber count. You are good.

Also, I like your gear choice. You have a lot of stuff that I have including a7siii, Godox VL150 (I have 300 though), tamron 17 28, rode ntg5 etc etc

Thank you! I really appreciate it. I’ve switched my content to more outdoors related than camera gear now but still trying to grow.

A sounds more natural, B has more bass, no real preference between the two.

Did you listen with headphones or decent monitors? I do feel like the video mic NTG punches above its weight class but the NTG5 is a lot clearer and has more bass. Most clients wouldn’t notice a difference at the end of the day.

@@BarefootMediaTV honestly I’m happy to hear that! Just shows how much value the videomic is for the price and extra features.

Can you disassemble the PG2R pistol grip so that you can mount the NGT5 shockmount on a camera hotshoe? Are those standard size XLR connections on the pistol grip and NTG5? Can you plug a standard XLR cable directly into the NTG5 without using the pistol grip?

No, yes and yes.

Have you used the Videomic NTG with the wireless go system and the FX6? I'm using it with the rode VXLRpro to get wireless audio during interviews which I LOVE but audio coming into FX6 is about 20db lower. Can't for the life of me figure out why and haven't found anyone else going this route. Always just have to use the recorded track on the wireless go as the fx6 track is too low.

I have not sorry. I'm not to sure, do you have a -20DB setting turned on?

Hi, thank you for your excellent review, what I was looking for. After extensive research I think I’ll go for the NTG5. One question, do you know if recording sound to an external recorder (let’s say Zoom h5) vs. an audio interface (like scarlett solo) makes a difference in sound quality ?

I'm happy someone else was having the same problem! I'm definitely not the right person to ask when it comes to audio questions like that. My guess would be that it would not as long as they both supplied phantom power which they do. Hope that helps.
