I think for traveling, that's the ONLY situation I'd rather have a USB mic since it eliminates the need to carry an interface. Something like an ATR2100X or maybe soon the Samson Q9U could be decent travel options.
@Tazmanian_Ninja
Жыл бұрын
For anyone considering the ATR2100X I'll share my experience: It came with the inner wiring connected in anti-phase. So when weating headphones, my own voice was perceptually cancelled out. Extremely incompetent wuality-control failure by Audio-Technika. I've also received faulty gear from Audio-Technika before. When it works, it's fine. But I've kinda lost confidence in AT as a brand, and tend to avoid them. Sound-wise, the ATR2100X actually surprised me positively though. The highs are crisp and overall not harsh, and almost airy (a dynamic microphone can never truly get airy, only condensers and some ribbons can). The ATR2100X build quality is very plasticky. Almost like a Fisher-Price toy item. The positive / flip-side being it's quite light and portable.

@@emmaombima299 so I've done some more research and it's not quite that simple. While you can plug in the XLR mic like that to your computer, the input gain will be very low and you'd need to adjust that on the computer which will give you loud noise in return, so I'd sugest you get yourself an audio interface or an audio mixer with the mic.. with that you can regulate the gain without any high loss in recordings.
@Tazmanian_Ninja

Rap vs spoken word in relation to microphone choice isn't a matter of how fast the words are uttered. It's about spoken word being acapella, no background music - whereas rap is on a beat. On the latter, you'll benefit from a mic that is significantly more mid-forward, and crisp in the presence range, and isn't too muddy or boomy in the lows. So it cuts through in the mix. For spoken word, a microphone can have a bit more "smiley curve" frequency response, with less emphasized lower mids, a bit more bass (for fullness), etc.

While it may not be the SM7B, it’s ridiculously close for a quarter of the price. I find it has a nice sound, and the build quality is outstanding. I concur that you will need a windscreen; I use a gooseneck pop screen and it’s fine. The PodMic has been my daily driver for more than a year now. It’s hard to believe that $100 buys you a broadcast quality microphone, but I would absolutely use these in a studio. This is what I use to voice track from home. A little tuning with a preamp, or even just the settings of the Scarlett interface will give you a nice sound that’s very respectable on the radio. I work in a big market and had NT1A’s in my voice booth. And just behind the BCM-104, the best mic I ever used in an on-air studio was the Rode Broadcaster. You’ve gotta love Rode for delivering quality that nips at the heels of the Shures and Neumanns of the world at a fraction of the price.

Interesting to read you dig the Broadcaster so much. Will check it out some more. But except for form factor, what can it do that a regular condenser can't? Also, I wish they'd clean up the design of it. That dark/black element on the side of a gray mic: it's like the designer WANTED to get fired 😂

I have no idea if I’m going to get a response but I am interested in getting this mic but I have some major questions. I have never dabbled in any xlr before and want to start and this mic caught my eye. I’ve heard that it is quite soft though and the interface I want to get, the focusrite Scarlett solo 3rd gen, doesn’t have that high of gain and wanted to know if that’s a problem. He’s using a very similar interface in the video and said he didn’t do any post production changes to the sound but is there anything else done like an in-line amp?

So i'm planning to buy this mic, cause it seems to be a good choice in terms of price to quality ratio. The only doubt that i'm trying to figure out is: does this mic need a mic activator or it can be directly plugged into an audio interface in order to get it sound high enough?

Hi Bandrew. I am torn between this and the Procaster. Would be nice to see a comparison and hear your opinion about it 😊

@@auroraflash No shit sherlock. Its more than twice the price. What we want to know is how much better. In what areas is it better. And is the difference in quality worth the difference in price. As well as are they specifically suited to two different kinds of recording. So I also want to see a detailed comparison. Now please think before you speak next time.

JSephH76 just watch the review and you will clearly hear the differences. Quit bitching around. The ProCaster has more bass. It’s richer around the lower end and clearer too. It’s much better for voice and you could just watch his original review and compare them yourself because that’s what your own brain is supposed to do. kzitem.info/news/bejne/0Yprm2t7kpyhkqA

@@auroraflash I've seen the original review. In fact the first thing I did after watching this was go back and watch his review. There is still a lot to be gained by hearing his thoughts and comparing them directly. His own personal first hand thoughts and opinions after using them side by side is a hell of a lot better than watching two independent videos and making your own judgements. So. Again. Think before you speak. Thank you.

I've just got a PodMic for my Radio Ham set up and I've been more than happy with the results. A good compacted size com paired to the Procaster and my other Heil mic's.
