I’ve had a number of instances where rats were getting in around kitchen fan vents. They can get thru the cap, then enter through the roof sheathing which is over cut for the size of the pipe. They can also go down plumbing vents and chew a hole through, and enter the attic, walls or crawl spaces.

Super helpful. I use a hand mirror held under the siding on an angle to examine the siding-foundation gaps.

I totally agree with you cj: if there's even the slightest chance that a rodent can squeeze into a small gap or small hole to gain entry to a house, block up the gap, block up the hole. Mice can be as bad as rats sometimes: wake you up in the night, chew into your food and clothing, make a mess in your home. Some older homes have so many rodent entry holes that exclusion is not a very attractive option and in such homes I may probably exclude any major entry points, but, then depend after that on regular trapping and poisoning to keep rodents out of the home. Thanks for the great video.

My pest control contractor estimated $2300-$2500 to do this. I paid $15 for copper mesh.

What state are you in?? All the pest control companies in my area do is throw bait everywhere. Ask them to do exclusion they tell you to call a contractor. Good job here

Good evening CJ, great information, I did subscribe to your site. I would have some questions. I'm soon to be starting in the rodent control business, on the site you were, if you had to charge for that job, how much it would be, and how would you come out, by the hour, per exclusion, time plus, material? I would definitely not be of any competition to you, I'm in Laval Quebec, thanks for your help ,

Dear cj thygerson, please help. ¿Will 1/4" galvanized hardware cloth/screen keep mice out, please? I hope that you don't mind answering my question, kindly. (I have mice entering my garage attic, and I've found possible entry points and am wanting to close them off using 1/4" (square) galvanized hardware cloth/screen). Thank you for making and posting this video.

Wait. You just showed us the 1/4” galvanized... and then at 2:43 “all they need to squeeze in is 1/4 of an inch”

Typically you will get that quarter inch mesh and fold it into an opening . So it won’t be a clear quarter inch gap in the mesh.
