@cementhauler99 I have no idea what the exact grade is, but it's failry significant 6-7% ish if I had to guess. I know that years ago, when stock trucks were ACTUALLY stock, most couldn't pull a gear up the hill. Now they're grabbing one and two gears halfway up the hill... insane.

the way the driveline turns, it turns to the left, and the torque of the engine is basicly trying to rip itself out of the frame, and the amount of power trying to turn the driveshaft and the heavy load cause it

The power of power.I am not surprised by the power since i know what a cummins or cat or an E9 mack can do.What blows me away is how the hell does the diffs,gear box and drive shaft survive the gigantic torque.Daammmnn!!! I would love to see a Mack titan doing this with a tuned MP10.These must be running 100psi of boost judging by how rich these trucks are being fueled.

@Jedizen07 That's a piece of the driveline, specifically the shaft between the two rear axles. Pretty common part to be breaking under this kind of load.

@Marie3343 Well you are entitled to your opinion. This however is a once-a-year closed course event held in a small northern community and the raw horsepower is a major draw to the spectators. The economic impact is huge... to the point where these sleepy towns likely would not survive without the festival. I agree that we should not have these machines on public roads, but I believe we should have a forum to test the limits of truck design, in the spirit of competition.

Since Peterbilt and other manufacturers don't produce their own engine,its kind of down to engine choice, driveline & gearing choice. The majority of these trucks are daily working trucks that are cranked up over 1000 hp,but likely de-tuned for daily use.
@TheLargecars

@@johnrebel9539 actually freightliner owns Detroit and volvo,international, I believe western star too Mack builds their own engine and transmission and the full Mack built trucks get adorned with a gold bulldog hood ornament and peterbilt and kenworth are made by Paccar who make their own engines and as for Caterpillar they make trucks now

@mrlaverdadantetodo bingo.. The thing that amazes me is: there really isn't a huge aftermarket hop up industry serving these guys. Tuners and marine parts here and there, maybe, but that only gets you to 1200hp or so. It's nothing like what the light duty diesel market offers. I could order up 10 grand in catalogged parts for a Common Rail 5.9 and be guarenteed 1000hp, easy. How they get driveline parts to survive 400%+ their power ratings is beyond me! These guys are doing it the hard way!

Hope in the 14 years since you posted this comment you found your way to the Rodeo. It was just announced that it won't be happening this year 2024. It has outgrown this small town long ago but it finally caught up to it. It's going to be relocated though. This wasn't a purpose built track,it was an uphill 2 lane street in a very small town of 1000 people that seen 60,000+ people every civic long weekend in August. Saftey, security and space trumped the massive revenue this event created. Sad indeed

@jeremysavard666 As for Gagnon's horsepower figures, I would very much doubt that claim. In talking with his motor guy, 2000-2400 is more realistic. Of course that has to be a calculated number likely based on weight and E/T. There isn't a dyno in the world that could measure that much torque and stay together. By my rough calculation... Torque = (Horsepower * 5252) / RPM = (2200 * 5252) / 2400 = 4814 ft/lbs

@JB101inc ifound a video on youtube that dyno big rig and the most powerful was a 1100 or so HP but 5-6000 TQ i dont remenber very good, so if coga has like 2000 HP he should make more like 8-10000 TQ because your calculation is for gas engine i dont think that works for diesel ....
