The Rodney Street Tunnel in Edinburgh is a long railway tunnel connecting Scotland Yard playground at one end with the Canonmills-Leith pedestrian-cycleway (coming out at the Tesco). Seen as a "missing link" in the cycle network it takes people away from a busy intersection at Broughton Street and Rodney Street. When the tunnel first opened in the 1840s a stationary steam engine would haul trains by a rope. Although it was in use as a railway until the Sixties - Scotland Yard was originally a station - it was bricked up and derelict for years until it re-opened in 2009. The tunnel is also known as the Heriot Hill Tunnel.
