Hey everyone! Thanks for watching. Really tight turnaround on this review, so I wanted to draw attention to the 1% window brightness that's overlayed on screen when discussing image quality (around 8:30). I've already seen a lot of comments about DisplayPort 1.4, as well. You can run the full resolution and refresh rate with DSC, and you have the option to turn off DSC in the menu. Also wanted to clarify something I didn't know while recording this video. Apparently the Console HDR mode on this display is the peak brightness mode, so that's what you should run if you want the screen to get as bright as possible.

If you deactivate DSC, what resultion and HZ do you run at? Is 4k 120hz 10bit possible? With the BFI it would look as clear as 240hz...
@cnotecashmoney8474

@@houssamalucad753 Should be 4k 120hz 8-bit through DP, and 4k 120hz 12-bit for HDMI. Although you might be able to set a specific refresh with a tool like CRU and go higher until you run out of bandwidth, then stretch even more if you drop HDMI down to 10 or 8 bit.

Hey Jacob. I was thinking about getting this for my PS5. I currently have a 55" LG C3 that I game on the most. I would get a high-end PC, but PS gets toooooo many good exclusives that I get on day one, which PC doesn't. So, how comparable is the monitor to the C3? I like motion interpolation for smoother gameplay (looks better than VRR to me) but most people don't like it. Does the monitor have that mimics that feature for consoles (PS5)?
@Nukerunin
6 ай бұрын
Is it DSC 3.0 though? Cause if not, you won't be able to do 4K @ 240hz with 4:4:4 color. DSC 2.5 can't deliver enough bandwidth and would lead to chroma subsampling. Only 3.0 can meet the requirements, assuming you're running 10-bit HDR. They need to start improving the bandwidth ports on these damn monitors. They're so old fashioned and lagging behind demand. Especially for how much they overcharge for these panels.

The Alienware also has a desktop control app like the Asus as well as the screen refresh and almost everything else. You are lying to people hyping up the monitor claiming it's leaps above the AW. I'm glad I made the choice to save $100. Looks way better than any of the videos people have posted. I have a Neo G9 and had an oled G9 and the AW destroys both. In the video you said ELMB lets 60FPS look as smooth as 120FPS from a motion blur standpoint. Isn't it 120FPS looking like 240? Its a 240hz panel so it seems like it would accept 120 frames, then display one, display black, display another one. That way if you can't render 240fps, you can still get the motion resolution of 240fps with a 120fps input, similar to but not implemented the same way as my LG cx48 oled's max BFI mode in 120hz.

I've had mine for a week and it's beautiful. All the complaints about OLED brightness are really overblown. It's just as bright to my eye as the Dell LED monitor I was using before. Text quality and sharpness are excellent. Wasn't too worried about this stuff anyway since I have a Samsung S95C 65" OLED TV and it is really great. Since ASUS uses a Samsung QD OLED panel it stands to reason the smaller monitor would do well in a smaller size with a high DPI. Anyway, my two cents. If you can afford it, get it.

I honestly don't think the new subpixel layout is going to do much for text clarity, but what will be great for text clarity is simply being a 4k monitor. Run it at 150% dpi scaling (i do on my cx48 oled with 4k) and there will be enough total subpixels dedicated to normal size fonts that you won't be able to observe the fringing. But also TURN CLEARTYPE OFF, NO EXCEPTIONS, and if you didn't edit your registry to do it it isn't off. Cleartype won't work here (as it also would not on current LG WOLEDS) and, arguably, was never great even on standard vertical stripe RGB subpixel LCDs.

Question.. I really want this monitor to play single player games in 4k, but I also play competitive shooters at 2k. Would I be okay downscaling to 2k with this monitor for FPS heavy games? Thanks in advance. Can’t seem to find the right answer to this anywhere

Yep. I play on a C3, and on some games, drop it down to 2k, and it still looks fabulous.

I got this monitor and theres an option callee aspect ratio where you can change the aspect ratio to 27 and another one. It is fantastic to use it to drive more fps on competitive games.

A TV is much more sensible for a Ps5...LG C3 or Samsungs S90C or S95B. A Ps5 will never reach more, if even, 120 fps

I have had this panel for 1 week and it blows me away……sometimes. My PG27UQ blows me away ALL the time. I’m torn. The specular highlights are gorgeous but overall brightness is lacking.

No one needs 1000 nits anyway if were being real ~ I use like 400 and its bright
@DrakonR

1000 nits full field isn't required, but in order for HDR to look great, you need specular highlights hitting the higher nit range and 1000nits is a bare minimum for good HDR.
@AngelicRequiemX

1000 nits is for contrast in HDR, not just brightness. So no, 400 nits is not bright enough for proper HDR.

Wouldn't call 100$ more a premium. The Allienware is curved and with buggy firmware. Of course, we don't know how's Asus' but i wouldn't buy a curved monitor

in SDR with gamut clamped to sRGB, I say yes. for HDR , it's not going to hit reference luminance but it will track EOTF fairly well up to the panels peak brightness. Gamut should be clamped to DCI-P3 for HDR.

I have currently a BenQ CAD/ Art monitor with 100% everything except Rec 2020. Sadly the panel is broken ao I'm looking to replace it with something I can do actual work on and game too. The peak HDR brightness of only 800 nits is very disappointing, since the custom heatsink was supposed to allow it to get even brighter than the competition. Better to wait for the next generation of WRGB monitors w/MLA that will re released later this year, as they should be significantly brighter.

Adds the KVM but ditches earc/arc support from the alienware monitor. The 100 bucks is 100% just pure rog tax at this point lol. Still want the rog monitor tho. My 3423DWF is rather annoying when it constantly force installs its PC software AND install the ICC colour profile which restricts the monitor sRGB mode. >.>
