And people says that Thiem and Medvedev are better than Murray. Andy was facing with members of Big 3 in their prime and always pushing them to the limits, winning 3 slams, 14 Masters 1000, 2 Olympics Gold. If Murray came in any other period of tennis, he will be in consideration for GOAT.

I think i remember this one. Murray was faced with the choice of knocking fed out in the round robin or maybe facing him again in the final. He chose to take out fed there. Fed fought tooth and nail and exposed his back problems. He was calling the trainer out to massage him down and using the lines men chairs between games. This match was the point where people stopped trying to break down his backhand and started trying to break down feds back. Poor murray was so gased he couldnt play against davydenko. I think that was the year gilles simon got the win against fed in the round robin right off the bat and put him in trouble. So much context in this match. Great year.
@BrotherTree1
3 жыл бұрын
I'd say that's a pretty decent summary, yeah. Although if Fed won and qualified for the semis, I doubt he would've continued on in the tournament given the back issues, and probably would've withdrawn in the semis hypothetically. He had problems with his back in Paris a couple weeks before as well. As for Murray, he probably had a shot to make the final (and maybe win the title) had he lost this one more thoroughly to save his energy. Hard to tell now of course... it's speculation of what could've been. But what's happened, is what it is.

Not to bash on Andy's amazing career (especially given the toughness of the era), but I truly believe had Murray kept his aggressiveness on his cross-court backhand, he would've won A LOT more than he already has. He had the ability to make his cross-court backhand fly past the likes of Federer, Nadal and Djokovic, but that shot kind of went missing later on in his career (not completely, but he definitely used it less often). This may be in part due to Lendl's approach of making Andy a more aggressive player, which may seem counter-intuitive, and forcing him to turn his forehand into his main weapon, thus resulting in him running around his backhand more to hit forehands. The Lendl era made Murray a more solid player, and I did love his aggressiveness during that period, but it is my opinion that he would've been more successful if he became more decisive with his shots on both wings instead of favouring the forehand. That being said, his backhand was (and still is) a major weapon in his game, I just feel he tamed it down when hitting cross-court. Either way, we'll never know what could've been and I may be entirely wrong, but one fact remains unchanged, he is part of the Big 4, and in any other era Murray would've had 10+ GS to his name. I am still proud of what he achieved, and even prouder of his evolution off-court. Hope to see him back to winning ways in 2021, or at least competing for titles!

This is the match that made me realise back in the day how insanely gifted Federer was, especially the third set. He had this back injury and was visibly physically unwell in the third. He also had this darker attitude throughout the match, which is very unusual from him. Yet, in spite of not being as agile and quick than usual, he pulled out some mind-blowing tennis and came close to a victory against a very good Andy Murray. Federer's raw talent is all over the place in this match, well outside his physical abilities. I was already a big fan at the time and it still came out as a shock to me.

All comment are so bad my god. As follower of tennis for long years , how could not aprecciate the tenis of roger? Look this slices my god even in less form than his past years it was beautiful tennis. Best displacement in court. I remember when he started around 2000. Moving like in the air. And his forehand is the best i saw... and i ve follow him in many tours for long years. Even when im argentinian and delpo could hit it strongest than roger, delpo hasnt the speed for impact on any position his forehand like federer. I want he be back soon. Novak could break his record of weeks as number 1 but never will touch the explotion of roger while playing. Its easy to see cos when novak and nadal started had much better impact than now on their hits and roger after his best form was able to manage it. Im glad that nadal have done 20 gs now! But remember that 13 are in clay like it should be... so we cant talk about the carrier of both them in similar terms. And for good bye pple friends fans: we still have a good future to see them in the end of their race togheter. Enjoy it as much like this possible.. cya next year.
