Great video. I was able to get a Champagne Sparkle, 22, 13, 16 with the COB snare, dated at 1970, just yesterday, in Australia. My awesome dream kit...

When I started playing , an older guy managed our teen band, he was in a proper band and we used their gear . He had a 65 flame red kit , 22 in kick , 13x 9 rack , 16x16 with a DynaSonic snare ... A beautiful thing . My kit was bitsa kit of mainly Sonor drums that I re-wrapped so to play this magnificent kit was a real joy . I have a hock-shop Rogers kit from the memri-loc era , 20 x20 kick which is amazing , an 18 x 16 floor tom I turned into a bop kick drum and a 14 x 10 rack which I ended using as the floor tom for the bop kit . I helped a friend restore her 60s Rogers kit ( cleaned it up , replaced the bottom hoops and tuned the damned things ... ) She was in love with the sound of my 63 Ludwig Super Classic and was astounded that her kit ended up sounding very similar ... No , she wouldn't sell them once I had put them right ...shoulda made an offer before I started ...They were in the very rare black oyster pearl finish ... the so called Ringo Stripe , too ... bugger

Absolutely beautiful kit. Sounds amazing too. as a drummer who started in 1964, I always thought Roger's were the classic & coolest looking drum on the market. I love that era lug's, tom holders & floor tom mounts. Sadly I've never owned a set, but when I was maybe 12 a bit older kid I knew had at set just like that in blue sparkle. I can still remember seeing them for the first time. They were a thing of beauty.

Sounds good. I do have to say that the worst snare drum I have ever owned was a Rogers Dynasonic. It was 1970 and I bought it along with a Slingerland chrome Avante kit. The first gig I played with the new drums was with Chuck Berry. Second song in the Dynasonic head split right down the middle. (Remo Emperors) Luckily, I had a back up Ludwig snare. The Rogers continued to break the batter head every time it was tightened down. When I brought it back to Wurlitzers in Boston the guy said I didn't know how to correctly tighten the head. So.....he did it. POP!!!! Split down the middle. Long story short, the bearing edge had a slight hump in it. I got my choice of any other snare drum. Went for the high end Slingerland. 😎

Thanks for sharing your experience. I personally prefer the 8 lug Powertone in the Rogers line up myself. I like the simplicity of the snare stainer versus the dyna w the bridge and over extended snare wires. That said I do own a re-issue dyna and It sounds great. Love Slingerlands as well. I have a late 60s Radio King and it’s one of my favorite.

@@eddieavakian I'm sure it was that particular drum, but I was young and it was expensive. I was bummed. Also, I agree the snare mechanism was just too much. My favorite snare of all my drums has to be my Ludwig Black Beauty with die cast hoops. 😎

@@eddieavakian I understand they were made by Yamaha , the lug boxes are the giveaway . Up until the end of the Big R /Memri-loc era they had what they call Bevertail lugs , that curved into the shell at the bottom , the Yamaha series are very square looking not unlike Sonor drums of the 80s/90s . The new Rogers shells are made in Asia , but finished in the US .

Another great video & I see you have a nice Groove going Eddie. You obviously have a passion for the drum kit . One bit of history would about my favorite Buddy Rich. I have read that even though Buddy switched company's Ludwig n Slingerland n earlier a few others . In his prime years with The swinging new band from mid 60's n for most of his years recording he used a fibes snare . He might of used a rogers also but pretty sure he liked the fibes snare the best . Not sure the shell of the snare but they were known to made of fiberglass .

Great kit. But for THAT kind of a very dry, muffled, flat, low end rock/pop sound, you wouldn't necessarily need this kind of expensive kit. A used Pearl Export would do just fine. :-) It would be very interesting though to hear these great drums in a higher Jazz tuning with more ring and some beautiful overtones.
