Some of the best boss fights in the series, introduced a lot of cool new mechanics for the player to, but one of if not the WORST story/campaign! Too bad MMBN 4.5 never took of in the west.

In 4.5 you are able to "control" other net navis (quiet a few if I recall) but they move automatically in battle. I've never played it myself but if you know how to use emulation then finding a translated version would let you play the game.

@@gigadrill1835 I know it's been a good two years but if you haven't looked into it yet, 4.5 is a very "roleplay" style game. It has a "story" but is mostly just about running around and collecting chips/fighting powerful Navis in tournaments that are held on specific days of the week. The game has a battery powered clock that keeps track of the day and time in real time and certain characters and events can only be encountered or experienced on those specific days, so in a way it's like the Animal Crossing of Battle Network. A fresh copy will have MegaMan, Roll, GutsMan and NumberMan as your choices of playable Navis and they all have their own unique properties. They control themselves in battle and you give them strategies and chips, either from your in-game folder or by slotting in the physical toy chips into a Chip gate (which never was released in the US). Because this was a driving feature of the game, the custom bar was changed entirely to essentially be a charge meter that determines the level of chip you can use (standard, mega, and giga) The Soul Unison navis from Red Sun and Blue Moon can be unlocked through tournament play or clearing other conditions in the story and full access to the internet requires the use of some of these unlockable navis. There are also 8 additional playable Navis (StarMan, IceMan, NapalmMan, ElecMan, ShadowMan, KnightMan, PlantMan and Bass) that could only be unlocked by slotting in their physical Navi Data chip that was released in a special booster pack, again, Japan only. I don't recall if these were required to actually complete the game, but I am leaning towards that they were entirely optional. Unfortunately, despite the fact that a few new chips were added to this game, no mega chips for these 8 navis were added and it instead uses the full Battle Network 4 library + its secret free tournament chips. I don't know if a translation patch for the full game exists - I know there have been several projects and there is a menu translation. It's a game for kids though, so if you want to practice your Japanese reading, it's a decent tool. The Navis all have something different to say to you depending on your progress in the game and the time of day so it's generally a very cute simulation. I recommend giving it a try if only for a few minutes, but don't go into it expecting "Battle Network 4 but actually good". That would be Battle Network 6.

@@SerenadeURA Worth noting, you can emulate both Chip and Beast Gates.
