I would like your assistance if you are so kind...First of all, excuse me "my English", I am not a native English speaker... I am in a dilemma about whether to buy a KORG PA5X or a ROLAND FANTOM 0... I would like to know if the ROLAND FANTOM has the capability that the KORG PA series does have, which is to LOAD A SONG and SEPARATE IT by tracks; this greatly facilitates song editing. I assume that the ROLAND models would also have that very IMPORTANT capability... but I have not seen any mention in the many videos I watched about the FANTOM regarding that capability. Thank you so much, in advance...

This is a good demonstration for the gigging keyboard player, but unless you can utilise all of the features of this board that the vast majority of players would never use, then I cant see how Roland justify the price. Kronos and Montage OS3 can do all of this and more at much lower prices, and if you considered MODX OS2, you could buy the 6,7,& 8 for the price of one Fantom 7.

I have a Fantom 8 and although there is a significant learning curve, the excellent keyboard action and the ability to craft our own unique sounds make the keyboard well worth the price of admission. The main downside is that this is a very large and heavy keyboard so unless you have roadies to handle your gear, or you are a YOUNG, avid bodybuilder with a full size SUV to transport this in you wouldn't want to gig with this. I also have the RD-2000 and although it is significantly lighter and smaller, it is still a handful for one person to carry.

What is it mounted on? A spring? This one mode "scene mode" is this like the Jupiter X where you are always attached to a scene? I asked this on another video and they said no but now you are telling me it is. I have one coming today and I got rid of a jupiter X because of this. Its not what i want. I want a performance type memory for sure for creating 16 part tunes but i also just want it in a type of patch play mode where a scene isnt affecting the sound im creating at all. The JPX was tedious to use and you would create a tone in part mode, and then use it in a different scene and it would be modified by that scene. Am i making another mistake with this keyboard?

Something no one is discussing: Does the Fantom allow you to set the MIDI receive channel per voice as expected in all professional workstations? Yamaha foolishly stopped supporting this with Montage and thus have ruined the ability to program splits or layers for external controllers. This makes Montage useless as a master keyboard in a multi-key rig. I'm terribly afraid that Roland has also adopted this absolutely TERRIBLE idea and have hardcoded the MIDI receive channel to the corresponding voice - i.e. voice #1 can ONLY be MIDI receive channel 1, voice #2 can ONLY be MIDI receive channel 2, etc. I would buy the Fantom today, but I'm afraid that like the Montage, it too may be crippled.

@@scottl926 Thanks for the reply. Because this is such a specific and technical issue (and not because I don't believe you know what you're talking about), can I ask you to clarify where on the interface you select the MIDI receive channel for each voice/part? I scoured the manuals and could find ZERO reference to it. I do so hope you're right! I will buy this keyboard immediately if you can set the MIDI receive channel per part!
@scottl926
5 жыл бұрын
@@rmirabelle Yes, on the Zone Edit menu theres a tab called OUT/PC this is where you can set which midi ports you send from, OUT 1, OUT2, USB etc. There is a column with the midi channel, so if you wish you can set the five first channels to channel 1 for example. By default they are set to their relevant channels 1-16. Keep in mind, if you have multiple channels set to the saem midi channel volumes for all those channels will repond together unless you filter out CC #7 for the channels you do not want to respond. From a scene you can set the channel to EXT or INT sounds and its indicated with a green or red LED for that channel to indicate whether the sound is internal or external. Its pretty flexible (much more so than the MODX/Montage) I hope this helps.
@rmirabelle
5 жыл бұрын
@@scottl926 Thanks for taking the time to craft an informative reply. I need clarification on the MIDI channel that you can set. Is it specifically MIDI receive (rather than transmit) - or is it somehow both? I'm confused by the nomenclature. If the setting is under a tab called OUT/PC, that would seem to imply you're setting a MIDI transmit channel (where the Fantom would transmit MIDI data like a sequence or arpeggiator or something like that) OUT to an external sound module. Is this just illogical naming or am I missing something? Thanks in advance.

Question: Did you demo these presets pretty dry? I don't hear much reverb in them. The catch-22 with your job as a demo person is you can't win. Some people will want this kind of demo dry so they can hear the real sounds, and some (mostly the people who have never done this sorta thing before) will want it drenched in reverb. Roland is world class for sounds, and their piano engine is bonkers GREAT. If I could afford this board, I would buy it in a second, this, or a Kronos, really. My brain is used to Korg having combi and Yamahas having Performances. I like this idea. It's always combis, but they're called scenes. Why not?
