Okay, Ratfans, I'm going to need your help with a few details here. Evidently this is an incomplete clip from Roland's segment on TV-am's Good Morning Britain, but I'm struggling to nail down the specifics. I think the original air date must be late 1984, and the fact that Rub a Dub Tub follows suggests it's from the weekend. The featured serial - episode four of Operation F.O.G.I, or "Free Our Glen Immediately" - would have first appeared during the October half-term of that year, but Wikipedia says (so, you know, whatever) that this was "repeated across subsequent Sundays". 25th November seems to be a prime candidate at the moment, but if anyone can offer any further information, please leave a comment below.
Other things to look out for include Anne Diamond joining in and helping to answer the phones, a trip across the Irish Sea, the Ratmobile breaking down, leprechaun encounters, and Errol's fascinating history of the bucket. That last one alone had me in stitches, and I think Anne was briefly struggling to keep it together too. I should also point out the guest appearance of James Saxon, someone who shows up a lot on this channel and a regular with Roland.
Apologies for the recording cutting in late, but I've left in some ads for you to enjoy to make up for that - in particular, check out Bob Carolgees and Charlie doing their bit for road safety alongside none other than Fay Lucas from Grange Hill (a.k.a. Alison Bettles). The episode of Rub a Dub Tub that follows can be viewed here:
