What you started saying at 4:00 is exactly my point of view, especially regarding KZitem. What we wanted to do was show people an archive of or lifting journey from beginning---moving forward (because there is never an "end.") Too often on KZitem we see Fitness KZitemrs who are already jacked or strong as fuck and for some people, seeing that may make the notion of getting stronger/ jacked unattainable. That's what we wanted to, and are doing differently. Although I don't have a 700 pound deadlift right now I will eventually and people can look at our channel and see that we too started from scratch and that anyone with the drive, motivation, and vigor to get stronger or whatever their fitness goals may be will be able to do so as well. You just have to start and keep at it. Thanks again for the great video Brian you are beginning to become one of my favorite KZitemrs, keep it up!

Even if you are not ambidextrous you can flip your grip every other set. It takes just a little bit of practice. I am not ambidextrous yet after using the same under/over for a while, I got some real differences in my trap development, and got a nice big knot in my back on my under hand side. Finally I saw a video with Alan Thrall where he said to start alternating and it only took a few workouts to feel like it was natural. I wish I could brush my teeth left handed! Awesome vid, Brian, you are an excellent youtuber

This resonated. From my friend and mentor, Myles Wetzel, one day when I set a dead lift PR: Something so primitive as just picking the bar up off the ground and standing there, yet you get so much from it. Changes the way you inhabit and walk the earth. Hard to explain, but anyone who has done this and pushed themselves knows the hallowed ground of the pull.

Youre right about the being uncomfortable thing. Back when I was 12 or 13, I decided to pretty much "pretend" that I enjoy hard work and being at the gym and running a ton, and now I really do crave the feeling that Im about to die. All my high school coaches and peers thought I was crazy because wed be doing conditioning, and Im on the verge of passing out, but all I could do was laugh. It was amazing. And even now, if I dont get that feeling a few times a week, then I get antsy and anxious. Its entirely possible to rewire your brain, its just a lot harder when youre older.

Some different questions relating to strongman training and contest prep: 1. For a contest where the yoke is heavy (for you) and still 100', would you focus on training heavy or working with lighter weights for speed or distance? 2. What shoes do you feel work best for walking events (yoke, farmers, front carries)? 3. When competing in a max reps for a movement that is pretty close to your max, is it more effective to work on reps for a lighter weight, just try and push reps in training on the contest weight, or try and train heavier so on contest day you might be stronger and somehow pull it out?

Hey Brian just found your channel recently and it has helped me tremendously. I suffer from chronic back pain and had a multi level surgery called a laminectomy so I cannot deadlift from the floor because I only injure myself. However, from doing rack pulls and some other excercises like the plate carries, it has allowed me to stimulate my back without breaking it if that makes any sense. Like I said I've had this injury for almost for 10 years and I'm only 23. At times it scares me that it only gets worse. And I have tried quitting the gym but my conditioned is only worsened since I have less strength to move my body so my back hurts more. If you had to time it would be really cool if you could make a video about alternative excercises for people with back problems who cannot do the regular movements. Again, thanks for the videos and I will continue watching.

Regarding deadlift grip: Why not just use a pair of straps when it gets too heavy for double overhand? Since your grip isn't getting that much work anyway and you get the symmetrical benefits etc.

Chelsey Thomas yeah man. that one really spoke to me as well. I grew up without a dad because my dad was not a person to be around. as a result, I never really "got" that hero worship of another man. instead, I learned that most people have something they can teach you, even (sometimes especially) if you don't admire them in any other way. Arnold (for example) has a great public persona and a great attitude in regard to training and working, but maybe he's not a guy to emulate in regard to women. I don't have idols, I have examples. pick up what can benefit you and leave the rest. no one is a monolith, we are multitudes.
@chelseythomas388
7 жыл бұрын
Josh Johnston Exactly! To be yourself is the best thing. I find examples are better than role models because you try to be someone else when you have a role model. When you have an example to follow its like I like that person but I can still do my own thing and get the same answer. Like in math. 2+2 is 4 but 3+1 is still 4 too. You be yourself man. Thats the best thing to be in a world that is always trying to tell you to conform and be the same. Dont be a copy when you were born an original :) I forget who said that...I'll have to look.

As always, thanks for the great content and for being genuine. Much appreciated Brian. Not sure if you've done a video on it as I haven't seen one, but how do you work through aches and pain and minor injuries? (Obviously major injuries need rest, surgery, PT) But I'm referring to sore shoulder joints, Elbow tendonitis, slight knee pain, groin pain, etc. I understand that there is a lot of subtlety and degrees to that question, but I would be interested in having you discuss your various ailments and how you worked through them. Whether that involved taking days, weeks, months off or working around it as much as possible, all of the above or whatever it is you have done. Thanks !!

I usually complain about my 13 inches fore arm and 8,5 inches hand, because they look week, doesn't matter how much I work my forearm to look strong, it is to long. But in compensation working with an axel bar is like working with a normal bar, and I can use a hook grip (with pain) on an axel bar and a normal bar hook grip doesn't even hurt

What advice do you have for amping up the intensity and efficiently getting work done within 15 minutes of getting out of bed?

Just do it. That's it. Get up, eat a healthy breakfast and hit the gym 30+ minutes later. Find your motivation, hopefully you are intrinsically motivated to lift or it will be tough. If you are extrinsically motivated make sure you have something to get you pumped but it's up to you to find what that is and then make sure you have access to it right away.

Autolycus I agree that there is an element of just do it. There also has to be some tricks of the trade to help mornings be more efficient. I am often very stiff that early, especially with hips. I'm considering only squating on weekends so I can spend 15 min on mobility to get ready to squat.

@albertding9700
7 жыл бұрын
chad a contrast shower will wake you the fk up. its not fun but it shocks you wide awake. i like coffee before my workouts, a drink with some protein and sugar might be good during your workout if you dont eat before. in terms of activating your CNS, some plyos / explosive movements will help you warm up quickly - a couple rounds of box jumps, med ball slams and plyo pushups and you should work up a little sweat and be activated neuromuscularly. another thing ill do during my heavy days is put on albums / music that ive listened to 100s of times and start dialing in and focusing on every movement and set. after a while you can train yourself to get in your own zone and itll feel like youre in a workout trance. i wake up at 5 am on weekdays to workout and i love it - i look fwd to getting out of bed. hope this helps and best of luck brotha

Dream Maker Lifting is inherently rough on your spine and joints. It puts a lot of pressure on your body while doing anything heavy (heavy being relative to you). Yoke can be more taxing for sure but I would think every lift would cause some stress to your body. As long as your form is good you can prevent a lot of injuries but accidents do happen. Just my 2 cents :)
