Great video and comparison. Thanks for the shout-out 🙏 (by the way ma fille de 18 ans va peut-être passer un an en Belgique à partir du mois d’août). I love the heaviness of the Air-King; it feels bulletproof, almost like the G-Shock of the Rolex lineup (though Rolex fans will point out that the Explorer II has better shock absorbing technology in its movement). Air-King is a niche watch: for those of us who like the Golden Age of aviation-a vintage nod in a modern, sturdy Rolex. I’ve owned vintage GMTs and Sub, but they feel flimsy compared to today’s engineering.

I will add a tip that most people will not follow: First, I bought my Air King "grey market." I don't care. I will NOT allow any manufacturer, not even Rolex, to treat me as if they are doing me a favor by taking my money. I will never sit on any "wait list." But that is not the tip. Here is the tip: Don't let what everyone else wants discate what YOU want. Trust me when I tell you this: none of the kids that try to fit in with the cool kids ever get to BE the cool kids. In as much, everyone wants this watch on an Oyster bracelet because that is what everyone else has. I wanted this watch on a NATO strap, the way Sean Connery wore it. So I used this desire of mine and everyone else's love of the Oyster Bracelets together to my own advantage. I bought the watch, pulled off the oyster bracelet, slapped on my Nato...and then SOLD the Oyster bracelet! I got back 1/3 of what I paid for the watch! So I did not wait on a wait list, I got a good price in the initial sale, I got the watch on the strap I wanted, and I recouped 1/3 of the purchase price by selling the bracelet that I didn't want in the first place. BE yourself, no matter what everyone else is doing...and there is GOOD money in selling wool back to all of the sheep. Oh, one more thing: a watch is not an investment, it is a consumable. Sure, some people make a few bucks here and there buying watches for investment purposes, but you have to know you are gambling when you try that. If you want to gamble just go to Vegas or start trading stocks. Watches are for your enjoyment. Once you understand that, you won't mind making your watches what YOu want them to be, with no hesitation about not leaving them as they came out of the boxes.

Is it really "confusing" that there are more numbers on the Air King? Jeesh....you're a watch collector. I love the Air King. and is just better looking than the Explorer (in my opinion). The Air King is beautiful but also just interesting looking for rolex.

@P M B Okay, I get that your opinion is that it looks "horrendous". That's an aesthetic judgement and everyone's entitled to their opinion on whether something is attractive or not. But, if you're actually confused by the numbers that has to be problematic for you as you navigate everyday life.

Hi Nicole, although I’ve never owned the OP, I know it to be slightly more voluptuous and to have some really interesting color options. However the Explorer is just the perfect watch, bar none. Give both a try but the Explorer is such a no-brainer to own. I loved the Air King and the Milgauss (same construction, just different appointments) but they’re quite fat due to soft-iron cage around the movement and you’re likely to find that extra girth and weight useless (I sold Both) when the Explorer does the same job with more grace.

Rolex recreated the new Airking as a way to use up their old Explorer dials they had leftover after sales plummeted on the mk1and were forced to upgraded the dial and hands in the mk2.
@UptickWatchReviews
4 жыл бұрын
Stephen S2R The AK dial is larger and the 3, 6, 9 have always been used on AKs so you’re just repeating something someone speculated about on a forum long ago. So many elements of so many watches from so many brands are repeated across model lines anyway. That’s partly economies of scale but most crucially for a watch company it is necessary brand identity establishment. You might as well complain that Rolex puts the oyster case and bracelet on all their popular models.
@stephens2r338
4 жыл бұрын
@@UptickWatchReviews Thanks for your comment, l think that you should physically measure the diameter of the faces instead of just believing what Rolex writes in their brochures. For example, the case diameter of the Explorer is a lot closer to 40mm than 39mm and is actually a whole 1mm larger than a 39 OP. The older 36mm 114270 Explorer is actually only 35mm. As for the 3,6,9 that wasn't available before1994, 37 years after production started. The latest version doesn't have anything in common with the older versions. Oddly unbalanced white numbers, should of used 05 not just 5. Plus they used too many colours, yellow, white, green and white gold. They really tried hard to hide the fact it's a mk1 dial. It's also a bit too obvious when it' was released in 2016 at the exact time the release the new Explorer. It doesn't bother me that they used the mk 1 dial, its practical. However it's still interesting to knowledge
