Bonnie, you can explain all of the motions in such a way that can and will encourage others to give it go. I have been too scared to return to skating, let alone Roller Derby but your videos have really encouraged me. Thank you.

I think we can ALL use the few seconds of greatness and awesomeness whenever working on a new skill. :) I'm not in derby, but have a tremendous amount of respect for those who do this sport. You ladies rock!

this is my absolute favorite way to skate! I skate the entire this way. I use my front leg to snake, both legs to shuffle. it burns the thighs good! practice is key. getting up against the wall and bending like a ballerina at the Barre. practice in circles until you are comfortable with this style of skate. then when you have it down, use the long ways to go fast and propel yourself around the corners til you are able to make it around the entire rink. it's cool when you get it down and then you add cool little tricks to it and people ask you how to do it and you then can teach them.

Excellent tips. I can go sideways but only by leading with my left foot which isn't very useful on corners when you are skating anti-clockwise on the derby track. >.< whenever i do lead with my right foot i just spin out so the tip about pushing your knee back in the right direction with your hand was really helpful, thanks! :)
