I did think this was clear but a few ppl mentioned this, the surgeon comparison is Pro (men and women) to Women (open/AM) not Men to women. The Pro category is open to pro men and women hence why the person complaining was so wide of the mark as they wrongly assumed pro was just men. There is no men only category. I've not lost the plot and gone on a rampage hahah

Think you were clear in the video, “even if were men and women categories” female skaters should be happy, even valued for, with the “favourable” (smaller) prize pool because by the metrics their participation and contribution to the event is small or lower by the metrics. super based take because of course women have a great track record when it comes to being included in the sport and there’s definitely not a legacy of exclusion which we should work against - but yeah bro they should really stop slacking!! “hahah” Anyways fuck the haters bro - love ur really cool videos. I don't really get the ABD grief. I like seeing different pros do the same tricks. It's interesting to see how each person approaches each spot, even if they're doing the exact same trick. The side by side breakdown between Darst and Farmer's clips was really cool, and we never get to see that kind of thing because people get so up in arms about an ABD. I understand people want to see new and different things, but ABD shaming never comes off as an attempt at quality control - it's often just pointless shaming.
@TomMoyse

I don’t think it’s the worst thing in the world but I like that it exists - not as a way to stop people doing tricks but more as a way to ensure a certain standard of output in edits from pros. It encourages progression, variety and creativity. Maybe there is a better way to call it out, maybe it’s just hoping people realise you were the first to do it. I’m not surprised people do call it out though. I think if you can do the same trick better maybe there is a discussion there, but it would have to be way better and the best way to do that is add something to it, therefore making it different. Out of interesting do you have any examples of pros doing the same trick at the same spot in edits? I prefer seeing the different tricks people chose to do at the same spot and witnessing their approach that way. It’s a funny old game rollerblading.
@NISHIAKI
Жыл бұрын
@@TomMoyse yeah I get the standard of output thing, I just personally think having "no ABDs" as one of the criteria is just kind of silly. I think it's fine to not want pros to do the same trick as a point of preference, but it being some kind of rule communities hold for pros rubs me the wrong way. I come from a skateboard background, and I've always thought it was dumb there too. It comes off weirdly competitive to me, and I never have approached these sports that way. Seeing two people do the same trick to me is more a sign of comraderie and respect than one of one upsmanship or competitiveness. I don't have any examples though. I think each skater has enough expressiveness and personality to make each trick unique to that rider. Or maybe a bit of imitation could change up how one rider approaches a trick and feel like a fresh change of pace from them, despite the trick being a retread. Ultimately, I think it's taken too seriously by viewers and people ought to just lighten up about it. I'm fine with people disagreeing with me, too. But it feels worth sharing my perspective haha.

@@NISHIAKI It's more etiquette than a community rule. It's polite to not repeat a trick. I asked about examples because I don't think it happens that often, which suggests to me there is always new spots, or new tricks on old spots, to be achieved. In turn this brings rollerblading more variety and progression - ultimately removing the need for pros to put tricks already done in edits. I agree there seems to be some people taking it too seriously on both sides. I appreciate you sharing your perspective. It's a preference. If you look carefully though Farmer touches his right boot with his right hand and Darst touches his left boot with his left hand. Was one of them a switch safety grab? Having grabbed both boots myself I'd actually argue the smooth, slimmer Them souls is an easier boot to grab than the Sway boot (it's a little sharper on the hand). Would really need to weight the skates as I'd say the sway with flat is heavier and therefor a bit more of a slog to jump in. Also, what's the shock absorber situation? More points for whoever is going in raw and risking bruised heels. That's core. PS. That Burston Mizu is up there with the best ever done. PPS. Farmer jumped right legs up, has to shift mid-air left to land into the opposite transition on stiffer you said, skate with a crown liner on a small wheel flat setup. Very responsive which at times provides twitchy landings. Sean just straight airs the gap naturally into the transition, only has to concentrate on distance. He's on as you said, flexier 908s. They look like black plastic and intuitions, so that's going to fix a lot of that flex right there and he's skating on anti-Rocker which makes makes gaps easier on straight air cuz as long as you stay forward the entire time you're basically land on tracks. 🤷♂️ Same but different. @@TomMoyse yh I get what your saying, Pro's should be doing it. The one acception could be in "homage" maybe like when Eugen did the Al Hooi thing..at least there's some context behind it. Like you say it's not a serious edit and he's a legend so maybe they could let it slide 😏

@@austerberrys101 Yea Eugen has done that homage to Julio cover as well. I’m not really sure how I feel about those - but the intention is very clear and come from a good place. I reckon this has to be Farmers first ABD, as a percentage of tricks he’s done on film I’m sure it’s counts for like then 1% so he can be forgiven haha 🫡

If I'm being honest, unless you can do the 'abd' trick, stfu bc it's still impressive nonetheless. I could care less if a trick is repeated as long as I'm enjoying the edit. People need to stop bitching about content when we barely have the numbers anyway. Can't please some people.

Haha pressed. No one said it’s not impressive 🤦🏼♂️ If they both did a 1080 off it, it’s the same principle, someone did it first. It’s not the end of the world but ABD is a good guideline, it keeps a standard of output for pros. “Unless you can do the ABD” unless you can do all tricks in the edit then you can’t have an opinion either way - that’s just silly
@StubbsOTD

@@TomMoyse that's a good point for keeping the standard of output for pros but I just don't like seeing the drama over what could've been an honest overlook. If he'd said this is all nbd's that'd be another story. Not that you can't have a opinion on it, just that if you think the trick is off limits forever it sounds silly bc there are only so many spots. To a point yes, but like who watches every single edit just to be like 'let me get my notebook out, this spot looks familiar.' Maybe I'm still missing the point, Idk?

@@StubbsOTD Absolutely there will be times when people forget or just had no idea. If you were called out you’d surely just say you had no idea. Sean’s tricks was from the first proper THEM vid with 34k views - so fairly well know but yet, still possible he didn’t see it There is loads of spots, tricks and combinations. At the spot specifically he could have tried 180 or gone fakie. I don’t think it’s a huge deal, but I like the principle of it

@@Stu108 It only applies to pros and edits, and there are varying levels within that. The purpose is to ensure a standard of output, it pushes progression and creativity. It’s a fairly minor thing but it can be avoided. In this instance, like I mentioned in the video, Farmers edit was seemingly a quick concept, so it’s not quite the same if it was a full blown edit or VOD but still, a bit odd.

Comparing the Men to Surgeons and Women to ambulance drivers seems like an inappropriate comparison. It seems like that would imply one sex is less valuable or skilled than the other. Women's competition is better than ever, and they are pushing their limits within their community just as hard as the men. While there may be fewer women competing, therefore not drawing the same amount of sponsorship opportunities, at some point a sponsor or event needs to step up and say "Hey we want to give the same amount to promote more women in the sport". We have faced this issue for years in the cycling world, and sponsors and events that are trying to push for equal sporting opportunities for women are more widely accepted and praised.
@TomMoyse
Жыл бұрын
It was not comparing men to women it was pros to ams actually. That was the first point in this, the person complaining wrongly assumed there was a men division, there isn’t. Your comment about stepping up is exactly what Capital Rollas are doing and what I highlighted. They are trying to build it up to show that they wants the females there, they are welcome, they are valued.
@sweetcycles1929

@@TomMoyse Fair enough. I misheard about the Pro vs (open) Women. But I think others might also make this mistake as the division information I can find for the event is Under 17, Open, Women's, and Pro. There isn't a prize purse indicated for the Open division, and there is for Women's and Pro. To me that indicates that the Women's division is best suited for Pro Women. I would just be careful with the comparison you made when referring to the Pro vs. Women's division, as it gets to be a bit convoluted. I see both sides to an extent. Technically if there are both Men and Women in the Pro division vs. the Women division, then there are more people competing for that prize money, thus the greater amount. Then the question is, how many women will want to skip the Women's only division to compete in the Pro division with the Men? I do believe that a Pro Women's division with equal pay will show industry support and help get more women into aggressive skating. I love your content, and I am not trying to start an argument. Like you, I just want the rollerblading industry to grow and be the best stewards of sport and fun that we can be.

@@sweetcycles1929 Thanks for the comment, it’s right to question these things and give opinions like you have. It’s the best way to test the resilience of ideas. So to enter pro, you have to officially be a pro (in this case pro is probably just a sponsor) you can’t just decide to enter it. Last year I believe 8 women entered the women’s open. Your probability of winning money as a women is a lot higher than that of the men. If the prize money was based on entry fee to the specific category the women would receive significantly less than what’s on offer. Capital Rollas are doing a great job.

Why not just have a women am/pro comp, when I was younger I had to compete with the women pro's from the start. Making the pro women skate against male pro's gives them pretty low chance of actually placing in the contest or earning a prize!

Haha it’s hardly hating, it’s just a bit meh. Rollerblading is niche but that doesn’t means there isn’t plently of other tricks that could have been done or other places to skate.
