When I was a kid, everyone had a pair of roller blades and literally every kid outside would be on them and every store seemed to have them on sale. I don't know what happened but the next summer all the sales disappeared and no kid was playing on them anymore. The last two decades, I honestly don't think I've seen them sold in any major retailer aside from maybe a couple dedicated sports stores and definitely not seen anyone skate outside either. @@i.am.ded.This is true, "rollerblades" are actually called inline skates. It's just here in the US, the biggest inline skate seller brand name is "Rollerblade" So, the skates they sell all have "Rollerblade" written on them. People find it easier to say rollerblades instead of inline skates, and leaves less confusion when talking about either inline skates or quad skates. We just say blades or skates instead, pretty often.
@Hannah7Banana
Жыл бұрын
I have done both and each one has its own advantages and disadvantages… Rollerblades are faster and your center of balance is in the center/back of your foot because of the flat design, making it easier to go side to side for speed. Roller skates / quads are slower but easier to balance on, and it’s much easier to turn in quads which is great for dancing… however, I do figure skate (on ice) and I’ve gotten so used to that side to side type of balance that I find it easier to balance on rollerblades now because I can move my foot side to side MUCH easier which ultimately gives me more control and allows me to balance for longer. I prefer rollerblades most of the time, but for the chill days or around the house I prefer quads

If you want to cover pretty long distances, the lower cuff models, sometimes called marathon skates, with 3_5 80-110mm wheels are great. True Speedskates, in my experience, are only good if you truly skate often enough so your ankles get and stay strong. Fit also needs to be tighter and less cushy. Both will also require more strength for the same brake pressure ( if you use a heel brake pad)

it could be related to the tightness of the screw that regulates the looseness of the wheels or to the material of the wheels (depending on the surface you skate on you will use different wheels. generally if you dont skate on competition rings you will need wheels made of a softer rubber made to skate on concrete/streets, so that they can absorb a bit of the unevenness of the floor. if these are not the problems, it could be simply that your legs have yet to develop the strength to push yourself and the skates forward so you would only need to practice more. hope this helps :)

Started rollerskating at a nearby rink (which has sadly closed) and it just worked so much better for me. I've tried both again recently and blades still don't work for me. I don't think they fit right though, the support was clearly supposed to be there but my ankles just wobbled inside them. So it's skates every time for me, but who knows, maybe I'll pick it up eventually.

Since ive been skating on quads for much longer and actually learned technique, I find roller skating suuuper easy- but definitely annoying on concrete or polished wood cause it’s either too rough or too slippery. I think it just depends on whichever one you grow up learning and adapting to. Whether or not you know how to skate- learning is always gonna be hard no matter the style of skating- so it’s just your preference of how you wanna skate:)

Was skating outdoor on inlines for 10 years almost every day and had a lot of fun, but about 2½ years ago I starded to play roller derby and I'm having so much more fun on quads. I love doing little foot work stuff that I just can't do on inlines. And the toe stops, they are the most fun thing about quads imo bc you can do so much with them. I also feel more secure going fast on quads because I can just turn around and break on my toe stops, inlines are more limited for high speed breaking, especially on bad asphalt, so I never felt like I could go max speed on them. I also found the inlines I could get at my local sports store to be very fragile, they'd hold up at max 2 years before breaking in a way that wasn't fixable. My first quads now broke as well (rip R3s) but that was to be expected from playing roller derby with that setup. My new ones are great and I'm looking into getting a park skating setup bc I don't like using my derby skates for both (and having to put on and take off slide blocks every time I go to the skate park is kind of annoying imo) Anyway, both are great, but I have a lot more fun with quads (roller skates)

I used to go to the skating rink every weekend from Friday-Sunday as a pre-teen. I LIVED for the rink. I started on the quads and I just couldn't find my balance so i was constantly falling. I couldn't really afford the extra 3 dollars for the blades because I didnt want to spend the extra money to try them and risk not liking them cause then my whole night would have been ruined, so i just didnt try them for the longest time. Then one day my sisters friend let me try her blades. They were half a size too big but the moment I stepped onto the floor, I new that they were the Skates for me. I switched to blades right away after that and have never used quads since. Quads are a nice introduction to skating, especially for kids but if you're more into speed and have odd ankles like myself, blades are the way to go. I also find tricks to be a lot easier on blades because the quads contradict each other. Switching feet is weird because they are wide and constantly hit the floor. At least for me. Everyone's experiences are different because my sister LIVED for the quads lol. Side note: you said that the quads are more flowy and I see so many people flow so gracefully on them and it just looks so beautiful, but for me the blades are more flowy. I love doing tricks on them. I want to like the quads but I think my brain is just more geared to the blades. I'm also blind in one eye so maybe that has something to do with why the blades are weird for me.

Guys if you are thinking to get roller blades, read this at the bottom. Make sure you think about your feet, some people a pigeon toed or penguin toed, which makes it harder to skate with regular ones. Also if you have flat feet, make sure you get shoe bottoms because it’ll hurt when you start learning how to skate. When you buy skates make sure they are the hard shell boots. They are better than the soft ones. Your feet should always stay straight and if your having trouble to move, put your feet in a v shape and start pushing yourself. If you fall, an easy way to get back up is to put your hands onto a knee, and push yourself up. If you feel like you’re going to fall backwards lean forward just so slightly so you don’t fall. *when your learning, GET A HELMET, KNEE PADS, AND ELBOW PADS! falling in rollerblades are NOT fun*

So... If you're skating in Vans converted into rollerskates you won't have the normal ankle support of outdoor skates. They will ride far more bumpy than quads made for street or park skating. My park skates have a ton of ankle support and feel like I'm rolling on pillows as long as I'm using the right wheel durometer for the terrain. No hate on rollerblades, I just wanted to interject that regardless if you're skating on quads or blades the quality, wheels, plates, and cut, will dictate how they ride. Rad video!

When I use rollerblades my ankles are nearly touching the floor! 😅 So despite being on team rollerblade I only skate with quads! I love my rollerskates but can't wait to improve so I can justify purchasing better ones!

Personally I think rollerblades are so much easier than roller skates bc you need perfect balance to use roller skates

As an ice hockey player I always found that roller blades provided an easier transition between roller and ice because of their skinnier surface area

all the years i went to the skating rink i got roller skates and i could not go 5ft from the wall before i felt like i was gonna break a bone. my last time i went i said screw this im getting roller blades, THEY WERE SO MUCH EASIER OH MY GOD. i was actually able to move around and state close to the center and around the sitting area and i actually had fun

As someone who has played hockey since they were 5(roller hockey since I was 9), I just recently tried roller blades and they were super fun! I still think I like roller skates better though, just because I've been using them for so long lmao

We got bikes so we could go riding and I've learned that I hate sitting down and doing that. I sit at home enough, so I'm glad that my weird internal interest for roller blading/skating is finally coming into my algorithm.

I have rollerblades but I’m scared of them bc i feel like they’re easy to fall because they only have one set of wheels on each one of that makes sense 🥲

ive tried both and like skates over blades bc i can stand easier on skates, when i try to stand or anything on blades i fall down bc the blades are all centered down the middle of my foot instead of supporting all sides like skates

For me, roller blades are a lot better, I ride my rollerblades almost every day unless it’s rainy and roller blades are just so much easier and more fun because you can go fast. You can do lots of tricks it’s just more fun in my opinion, but yeah.

If you want your rollerblade to look better than your roller skates, i recommend getting edea rollerblades, they're really good quality but they're really expensive

For anyone curious about getting the flow you can get on skates for blades, find a rockered frame for your blades and boots that don't have solid cuffs! This will let you have tons of lower leg flexibility as well as the 2 wheel pivot lauded by people on skates!

An example of this setup would be freestyle rollerblades like the FR Spin Freestyles with their frames or you can buy special frames like endless 80s giving you a popular rockered setup!

Do you know of any skates that come like what you’re describing without having to change out frame?

I was a roller skater first, then a roller blader. Once I learned to rollerblade I suddenly could not remember how to roller skate ad the blades were so natural for me. But now I'm getting back to rollerskating with my kid. Wish us luck!

Roller blades all the way! Blades are so much easier for me, I absolutely cannot keep my balance while trying to use skates!

I prefer three wheel skates because it just feels like I have more control over where I turn as there is less weight but more stability 🤷🏻♀️

if i may add: roller skates’ wheels are changeable, and you can buy wheels made for street use (the same type as roller blades) which would make the skating smooth just like blades, which are originally meant for street use only which is why they have those wheels. also, roller skatesk’ boot part is generally higher and safer than roller blades when speaking of jumps, cause they are made for competitive roller skating, which has the same jumps and general mechanics of ice skating. however, in the video the person is using roller skates that are made with a shoe shape instead of the typical boot. the shoe version are more used in jam skating typically, cause they are less restrictive on the feet joint and this makes them less safe for jumps. my point however was that the proper roller skates (boot-like shape) are made to jump in them, so they are a lot safer than what the might look like, and you can keep or take out the rubber part (the thing used to stop) if need be, or change the wheels with others of different density or materials depending on the surface you wanna skate in
