Prime Takeaway at this point for me? Amazing lesson in how even geniuses go down dead end roads and have to backtrack and fix things. When you watch other channels they very well may edit out the mistakes. But mistakes and terrifying wrong turns are all part of the process. Watching this particular genius just casually say, “I widened the frame by 6 inches“. And taking on another 40 hours of work, no big deal, no drama, just do it. You are the bomb dude, I can’t wait to see what you will be making five years from now.

Well, it’s great to see you are being so productive during your break from school Vince. You’re going to love the decision to make it a 2 seater. The only thing better than seeing the smile on your face when you go for the first drive will be seeing the smile on whoever sits beside you during the first rides. I know your about ready to return to school because my daughter starts her 2nd term next week but I hope you have at least one more video for us before then. Keep up the great work.

When I watch these, it makes me want to give every high school/college student a shop with a welder, a drill press, a metal lathe, maybe a cnc and a 3d printer. And then I think about it some more, and I realize that a solid half of them would immediately trade it all for an X-Box. Some percentage of the rest would blind themselves with the welder; some would try to use the drill press to place another nose stud; and a bunch would sell everything and go get the Sistine Chapel tattooed across their entire body. Makes me want to drink Drano. And then I watch these some more, and I am heartened to know that there are many like you who build their dreams and take us along on the ride. I think we’re going to be OK. To the smartasses who chime in every so often to tell you exactly how you are doing it wrong, I have only 4 words: “Dude built a tank!”

WOW! Just binge watched everything to date! Easily got my sub. One thing to watch out for, is mock up the exhaust BEFORE you fix your engine mounts! How many times people set their engine, and then find out they have to do some crazy (and ugly) exhaust pipe work. Or they end up hammering the exhaust pipes flat, mangling up the frame, or make them go up since they can't find a way to make them go down. With they crazy skills you are showing, I wonder why you are doing college? Not all jobs need college, and it seems you have a crazy passion for creating things. Do what you love doing, and you'll never work a day in your life.

Had a Craftsman lathe just like yours. Did a ton of work with it. Noticed you TIG a lot of stuff. Make darn sure you burn anything mounted to the frame in really well and especially any steering components.

So, oval track cars typically have the front spring fixed solid on one side with a shackle on the opposite. If you run 2 shackles you would really need a panhard bar.

I was hoping that you would put in heim joints to handle the front axle articulation, if you hit a bump on one side the axle would move in an arch, not sure if the balls on the back side of the wishbones would allow that movement freely, but if it does that’s good and this setup will work, hard to know without seeing the range of movement on the axle
@MacroMachines
5 жыл бұрын
split wishbones or hairpins like this are geometrically inferior to just about every other setup because they don't allow one side if the axle to lift while keeping the other on the ground. there's a little bit of room for movement, but not much. it sure looks good though!

MacroMachines Ha, let’s hope that’s not your last famous words! Just kidding around with you, it’s a great build I like that you’re building everything from scratch, just remember to be safe, I see a lot of rat rod and hot rod builds that aren’t safe enough to drive around the fair grounds let alone on a highway. Cool build either way, keep up the great work

nice lathe , it seems to be the perfect size for the type of work youre doing on it (big enough to swing a brake drum or flywheel over the bed ) using the treaded rod to hold both the ears at the propper angle isnt the best idea as the treaded rod is kind of thin and can be slightly bent when handling it trowing youre squareness off , better to cut a piece of pipe to the exact length and square on both sides on the lathe and then use the treaded rod treaded through it and the ears to tighten it up , it might even be strong enough to bend the ears toward the hairclip tie rods after you welded it to the axle think you going to need to get a long (tapered?) reamer for the spindles and axle and ream the holes out in situe would give the best fitting hole for the pin , should be able to fit and ream the bronze bearings for it too , might even be able to introduce some camber by cutting the hole at a slight angle and work youre way up to the final size i've seen some films of the handling of these cars and they seem scary to drive
