The lecture will take the historical development of the Dacoromanian theory from the 19th century to the dictator Ceaușescu. The presentation is divided into four main thematic units, which are closely interrelated. On the other hand, I will begin to unravel the birth of the Dacian-Roman thesis through the work of a number of influential Romanian intellectuals from the 19th century to the First World War. Thirdly, the concept of a 'New Dacia' for the birth of Greater Romania around 1918-1920 will be illuminated, and fourthly, the specific quest for a Romanian interpretation of the homeland, re-framed by communism, will be explored.
