Hate speech is rising around the world, inciting violence and undermining social cohesion. Minorities are a recurring target of hate speech. In January 2021, Romania passed the first law in Europe to combat hate-speech against the Roma - the country’s largest ethnic minority. Ahead of International Roma Day on 8 April, see what stakeholders in Romanian politics, civil society and the arts have to say about the need for this law, and solutions to the enduring discrimination against Roma people, as well as their social and economic exclusion.
