In the Carpathian Mountains of Romania, a plan is underway to create "The Yellowstone of Europe." Home to the continent's last primeval, old growth forests, and it's largest concentrations of Eurasian lynx, wolves, and bears, this landscape is beautiful, but troubled. Decades of logging, both legal and illegal, have haunted these ancient forests, threatening to destroy one of the last bastions of wilderness in Europe. But hope can now be found in the proposed Fagaras Mountains National Park, with it's aim to not only protect the forests, but serve as a model for locally beneficial conservation projects in the Carpathians.
