There's a quicksilver smoothness to Alex Campbell's way of moving that's unmistakeable. And rare as well in male dancers. Steven McRae may have more amplitude in everything he does, like an Aston Martin DB9. Campbell's smoothness of excution on the other hand, is very much his own - like a Bentley Continental.

We'll be at the cinema (Silea, Treviso) for the live steaming on 22nd September, and we are so looking forward to it. So this live rehearsal was timely and just wonderful. And so informative. It doesn't hurt that Christopher Saunders, Sarah Lamb and Alexander Campbell are so articulate when giving their thoughts on what they're doing. Might have been nice to hear something from Ryoichi Hirano too, maybe? Ballet dancers at this level are amazing. They deserve unqualified respect for their absolute dedication to their art and our entertainment. Bravissimi!

I had the chance to see the Royal Ballet with Romeo and Juliet here in Taipei 3 years ago. Marianela Nunez danced Juliet on the night I went to. Everyone was great, and so were the sets and costumes. But the ballet was almost overwhelming for me: there is so much happening that unless one is already familiar with the choreography, it is almost impossible to take in everything. After seeing this wonderful session, I wish so much to see it again!

It was Juliet and Paris, not Romeo, in the rehearsal. Juliet was originally rather like Miranda - "Oh, strange new world that has such creatures in it" just reaching puberty, but NOT in love with Paris. Alexander is indeed more lively and does the choreography so expressively. Rehearsals are piecemeal, and onstage performance for some dancers, differs markedly, profoundly, from rehearsal work. One must look to complete run-through to watch some dancers develop their character.

i find it so interesting comparing this performance to the one he gave with the Birmingham Royal Ballet. Obviously he was younger then, but it really shows in the character, namely in the death scene when he goes after Tybalt again, in the old video he is a lot wilder with his movements, and when he acts like he’s fine its more class clown than charming. His acting has gotten a lot better also, even if it is out of context :D

I've just taken part in an Insights participatory workshop, Big Sing Christmas Carols, rehearsing then performing them to the accompaniment of a lovely brass ensemble. It was fantastic! Such a privilege to be rehearsed/conducted/accompanied by Lee Reynolds and Tim Anderson. The event was rendered even more convivial by the mulled wine handed round in the short interval between rehearsal and performance. I'm 65 and just debuted at the Royal Opera House! Ha!ha! I'll be back unless barred for over-enthusiasm.

Matthew 8:24-27 And behold, there arose a great storm on the sea, so that the boat was being swamped by the waves; but He was asleep. And they went and woke Him, saying, "Save us, Lord; we are perishing." And He said to them, "Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?" Then He rose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm. And the men marveled, saying, "What sort of man is this, that even winds and sea obey Him?"

In this he is Paris, her cousin, who she is not in love with. Just after a moment when she pulls away from his hands running down her arms to her hands, she backs off and turns to Romeo. This, of course is not rehearsed here.
