I agree with Warren. NHRA sort of does treat the race tracks for the fuel cars more. Because Pro Stock, I have seen over the years, as WJ said, gotten really loose on some tracks like Maple Grove Raceway, and the one in the video, Pacific Raceways in Seattle

pretty much all the drivers (especially pro stock and bike ) were not going to return to kirkersville ohio (national trails) after the last race there due to a bad bump 800 ft. down on the right side lane. karen stoffer took a nasty spill off her bike when the front brake rotor broke after hitting it. she slid over 100 ft and later in the pit area she showed me where her leather bike suit was worn completely out in spots. for whatever reason, the drivers said even after repeated meetings with nhra and track owners they werent getting any results towards fixing the problem.

Hopefully these tracks have reworked the tracks with a membrane under the asphalt seal coating prior to race days. Would stop a lot of that. But Warren is right. When do you see the crews get out the track dryers?

Well; if I remember correctly; the same track conditions prevailed at Z-Max Dragway back in September 2012, that made the Pro Stock Cars so loose they darn near would flip over and crash; and if you remember that very race, that's what happened to Shane Gray in his 2nd round loss to ironically enough; W.J. And that deal had a lot of the Pro Stock drivers such as Erica Enders, Dave Connolly, Vincent Nobile, Larry Morgan, among others talking about, or mad about the track,

Warren has always been a bit temperamental for sure, but he is smart and he knows what he's talking about here. Gotta give the guy credit for speaking up. Pro stock has always been a wild animal out there because those bodies didn't create the needed downforce at high speeds to help them stay on the track. Keeping a straight line in pro stock from mid track to end was critical!
@TheNovaMan

This was when the NHRA was only prepping the first 1000ft of the track. Because Pro Stock cars have so little downforce compared to the horsepower they put out, it was like a skating rink for the last 320ft of the 1/4 mile.

It sounds about right. At Z-Max this problem is pretty unforgivable at the regular race, as they could just use 3 and 4 for PS/PSM and run fuel in 1 and 2. Though at Z-Max I would prefer 2 x 4Wide per year and it won't solve the problem for all other tracks.

Remember the day when top fuel cars went down the track side by side. Like the days of the ' Mongoose" and the "Snake". Now days top fuel has got so fast that either one car blows up or crashes or blows the tires off, Its a one car finish . That's not racing.

WJ's friend, and Greg Anderson's friend and mentor, John Hagen lost his life over forty years ago in Brainerd on August 19th, 1983 due to a high speed crash. Some people forget about that. These PS cars are an absolute hand full when they get out of control. John's crash, as well as Lee Shepherd and Bob Glidden's crashes, are a few examples.

I don't understand why a track that isn't good enough for 1,500hp pro stock cars to race on without getting loose at the top end, would be good for 10,000hp top fuel cars? If a 1,500 horsepower car breaks loose in the last half of the race, then why wouldn't a 10,000hp car do the same(or worse)?

LOL....WJ won a lot of races through the years but the last decade has not been competitive. Also WJ got numerous round wins at the expense of his son Kurt who many times seem to have mechanical problems when he raced dear ole dad. Most teams now days let the guys go at it regardless of needed points. That's the way it should be. No doubt the man is brilliant but times are getting a head of him.

Some guys were like that. Jim Yates built engines for a lot of guys but he never lost to one of his own engines. Something about that always struck me the wrong way. Steve Schmidt built engines for a lot of teams and he was always getting beat by his own engines.
