I have total respect for this man both as a musician and a person. He showed such respect by singing this song at Steo's funeral, as it was one they both used to sing together quite a lot. It really tugs at your heart-strings and moves you like no other song can, so powerful yet beautiful. You are one amazing person Ro, love you to bits. xxxx

Oh no, I respectfully, but wholeheartedly disagree. At your suggestion I listened to Collin Raye's recording. In the first line I knew Ronan's recording is by far, not only immensely better, but Ronan's is heartfelt and rises from his soul. From the first time I heard Ronan's recording of the song, I could sense that he was singing from the place of knowing. The emotion, the heart, the soul, the feeling that emanates from him as he sings this song indicates that he surely must be the author (yet I don't know, even now I haven't looked up to find the author of the song). Collin's country western style of singing is too affected for his performance to be genuine. The way his voice drops the end of each line, he drops the emotion and authenticity. His style seems to make fun of the lyrics; I just can't take him seriously - in a song that is incredibly serious. Ronan breathes life and pain into the words, pain of knowing what is is to not have love, contrasted with the thrill, calm, peace, assurance and comfort that accompany real love - honest, healthy, encouraging, secure love. Ronan Keating doesn't sing this song, In This Life, he lives it, When he sings it, he is taking a pause in his life to open his heart and soul, and show us a glimpse of what resides inside. (With this rich explanation, I must point out that the recording about isn't the best - I speak from the experience of hearing his released recording and those of some of the other live performances of the song - of any of his songs, actually.) I think Ronan is an incredibly rare artist. From the first words of any of his songs, I am hooked, I am folded into the world and life of the song with a richness holds me through the end and stays with me, wanting more. I have rarely been able to listen to a Ronan Keating song without having to replay it, unless the next song is also him singing. When I bought his CD, Ronan, it's the first time I've ever liked every song on a CD. Ronan rocks the soul.
