Coleman has a line of grippers and although he never practiced grippers in a grip sport fashion, he did train heavy duty grippers regularly for his forearms. Also, I'd reccomend a mix of heavy work and light work. What I do is four sets of heavy work (sometimes warming up with an easy gripper first) with a gripper I either can't quite close or can barely close doing single closes, then three sets of singles or a few reps with medium level grippers for where I'm at.

so if my logic is true, (that each gripper is the same mount harder poundage wise as the one before it) Ronnie would with no further training get the #3.5 handles to almost parallel. The #2 is a good working gripper then for heavy sets for you, then. I like to use grippers that I can barely close or can't quite close with a set for my heavy gripper work (for me, I can't quite close the #3 with my right hand and I'm working on the BB Super Master, similar to the #2.5 with my left), and then use ones that I can close once or a few times with a wider set. Ultimately, what's best is to order the #2.5 and the #3 and expiriment and see what works best for you.

Although mathematically that is true, the difference as far as training and the way it feels on your hands goes, it's more like the difference between the 2 and the Elite (which is a 3.4, a touch easier than the 3.5). By comparison, I can get the #3 reasonably close to closed, not quite a half inch, but I can't get the 4 to parallel, I can only close the 4 by chest crushing it. Thankfully, there's the Elite, the 3.5, the Super Elite, and the Grand Elite as in between stepping stones.

The 1.5 and 2.5 are great, but the BeefBuilders are at least equal quality to the Ironmind, both stemming from the master of grippers, Warren Tetting (Tetting still makes BeefBuilders by hand). When I aimed for the #2 (before the Iromind tweeners came out), the Super Advanced (1.4) and Master (1.8) helped bridge the gap, and the Super Master (2.4) and Grand Master (2.7) are helping me with the #3.
