@@coeurdelion484 no he Def had some dodgy years btw. His best year was 03. He was world class in the mid to late 90s. The reason John couldn't win WC is because of Hendry / he would of lost if they met. Ronnie has improved his safety but the idea he was not WC in the 90s is bs. Like Hendry he was incredible in the 90s. You also seem to forget that Davis in the early to mid 90# was still brilliant. Doherty and Ebdon were underrated players too. No doubt Hendry hot some easy games but it was not weak like people make out. O Sullivan may have played for longer but when you look a little closer you realise that fringe players like James Cahill, Ali carter and Bingham ( not a bad player tbf) knocked him out. thank you for uploading this. I loved watching this historic match! One thing that cracks me up, is the commentator keeps saying how Ronnie and Stephan are such good friends lol they were 100% not good friends at that time. I have seen a lot of documentaries/biographies on both of them and Stephan made a point not to make any friends with any of the other pro snooker players because he thought it would take away from his game. In fact, to this day, Stephan says that when he did eventually start making friends with Mark Williams and other pro's, that he believes it was part of his downfall.

@michaeltrumph121

@@michaelmulhall5007 The class of 92 were just kids/teenagers when he was dominating. As soon as they turned 20, his domination ended. They had addopted and could match his attacking play, yet they also developed a tactical and safety play far superior to Hendry's. He was too stubborn to addapt his game, so he lost his position as top dog. Hendry was missing plenty in the early 90s as well, but he was lucky there was nobody around to punish him on a regular basis. Hendry simply scored heavier than the opposition on a consistent basis, that's why he dominated back then. From the late 90s however that all changed. The class of 92 and few others were better safety players and could punish his mistakes more often. Regarding your statement about him dominating nowadays, that couldn't be further from the truth. He wouldn't be anywhere near the top 5. As soon as he'd miss, the players nowadays will clear up. In the early 90s, only a few players could score heavy, and none were doing is as often as him. But now, even the guy ranked 80 in the world can score heavy and has a chance at beating the world no. 1.

@@michaelmulhall5007 That only happened once. And the fact that Doherty managed to win 5 games, that's 1 to every 2 from Hendry says a lot. It means that despite Hendry being at his absolute best, he still couldn't demolish someone like Doherty. That means that in the frames he did not win, he either missed or messed up the safety to let his opponent in. @@Geena-tn1pt and you conveniently miss off that Ronnie beat Stephen in two semi finals at the Crucible too. However, saying someone ‘should have’ won X amount is pretty irrelevant, be it Ronnie, Stephen or anyone else (Davis 1985 etc). It’s interesting that while I have heard Stephen talk a lot about the Peter Eldon loss, he hardly mentions the Doherty one. This to me was the far greater surprise as Hendry had been virtually unbeatable for six years at the Crucible. By 2002 Ebdon match, his powers had waned and invincibility gone.

@@e.e121 whilst it may be difficult for you to believe I am not a fanboy of any player let alone hendry - my favourite player is actually John higgins who is another all time great. Whilst it may be true that Ronnie did not hit his peak till later though having watched snooker for the last 30 years I have heard from commentators and fans alike ever since Ronnie came onto the scene that he was already the goat. Another point I feel which you made is the 'weak era' argument which is the same argument people make to discredit other great sportsman like federer and Pele etc to name but a few. It simply doesn't hold up at all in my view. I would argue that the 90s was possibly the strongest era of snooker - Ken Doherty was phenomenal, Steve Davis and Jimmy White in the early 90s were very strong, the likes of John parrot, the class of 92 came through, Peter ebdon, Alan mcmanus. I have to give credit to Ronnie for his longetivity, even physically he takes care of himself (especially compared to John higgins and Mark Williams). Snooker is different today compared to the 90s having actually gone worldwide a little more and who knows maybe a 'world' championship will be held somewhere else in the world! There is slightly even more tournaments now compared to 90s and maybe hendry would miss his social life if he was travelling alll over the world (just ask the ladies!) though in all seriousness there is not one player who is a major player today that hendry didn't face during his career, don't forget Selby, Bingham, Murphy, trump, etc were all there in the 2000s and didn't cause a ripple during hendrys presence. Simply put Ronnie has never dominated the one tournament which is by far the strongest - the world championship and hendry in the 90s is the greatest dominance the modern has and prob will likely see.
