What a bloody brilliant bloke, God Bless them all. My Mum was a nurse during the War, she told me that all the boys in her year at school never came back, they were all fighter or bomber pilots. She also worked in the burns unit at Edinburgh Castle, the majority were pilots. At the cessation of hostilities she was posted to Germany. She made friends with a couple of the German nurses & they remained good friends for the rest of their Days. I think Edith emigrated to the U.S of A. Rolf her son visited us away back in the mid to late 1970s, Mum used to exchange letters every year with her old pal who remained in Germany & then the letters stopped, sadly she must have passed. There are some strange ironies, our ancestry is from the East Russo German, ( but also importantly Polish/Lithuanian). I’m 30% German, (DNA). And my Uncles brother, ( both Polish), was captured by the Germans & ended up fighting on the German side, he was captured at Monte Cassino by, ironically, the Polish. How strange is War how bloody horrendous. But how poignant is Life. Life is sweet, unfortunately we are governed by megalomaniacs, the World would be a far better place without them. A Peaceable Kingdom.

Thank you for documenting this aspect of war and the existence of those allied service men from Argentine that have been overshadowed by the German post war "refugees".

My father, Kenneth Macdonald, also trained in Canada, and Scotland. He piloted his Halifax crew safely through a full tour for Bomber Command. God bless you sir.

It would be Spitfires wouldn't it, never the lowly unregarded Hurricane that really won the Battle of Britain. It just aint sexy enough for WW2 documentaries.
